Project STEAM, Minecraft, Kane & Lynch 2

I loaded up my 3DS with Project STEAM the other day. It plays a whole lot like Valkyria Chronicles, maybe exactly like it. The battle system is the same. It’s turn-based, but you move freely about the field. You can save your action points to use when it’s not your turn. This is called overwatch mode, just like in XCOM, and it lets you automatically shoot at targets that move into your line of sight. The world is steam-punk and you fight an alien menace. I’m liking it.

Today in Minecraft, I tried to build some railroad in the normal course of Survival mode and found that it’s not as labor intensive or costly in resources as I thought. I dug a mine and then laid track to get in and out of it quickly. It worked fine. I think I’ll do that all the time now, and also try and figure out how to use the minecart to transport materials out of the mine automatically. Playing Minecraft was a nice warm up to some more intense gaming, which I felt ready for after a few hours.

I finished the story mode in Kane & Lynch 2. This is not a long game. I think I did it, in total, in about 5 or 6 hours on the default, “medium”, difficulty. Then I miraculously got Mark interested in the game, and he downloaded it, and we played through the whole game again co-op. We did that in just under 3 hours. I really like the level design in this game. It’s got every type of city environment you can think of. Every area is lushly detailed and full of spots to take cover behind. I think they designed the city streets of Shanghai really well. It felt very realistic and looked amazing.

I also tried Arcade mode. In this mode you and 7 other A.I. controlled thieves have to gather loot and then escape in a getaway vehicle or chopper. You’re tasked with working together to make it to the end, but you can betray fellow thieves if you want. You just have to be ready for the consequences. It feels like a Halo firefight, or Gears of War Hoard mode except you are moving through the level instead of staying put. Each wave gets progressively harder.

I’m still working on a few more achievements in the game, so I’ll play it some more next weekend. This game is a pleasant surprise. I’m digging it.

I forgot about that Project Steam game. I remember when it came out people were talking about it. I really don't play my 3DS enough.

I have a lot of trouble finding time for it, but I regularly carry it around for street passes. My Vita, though, I'm worried about because I haven't charged it in a long while. I should go do that before the battery decides it's through.

Glad you're digging STEAM. Whenever I'm in a GameStop they always seem to have a copy but I never give it a shot. Those K&L games are fun but they're short. Still they're more enjoyable when playing with another person.

I liked K&L2 both single and co-op. I noticed just a few differences between the two ways to play. In co-op, one of the levels has you split up and go different ways. Kane goes above on catwalks and Lynch goes on the ground floor. In single player, there's a level that you don't get to play in co-op.

That's cool, its like a little bonus if you play the game in Single Player vs Co-Op.

I played the demo and it was fun. I read that there's no levelling up so I sort of lost interest. Then EB had it on for 10 bucks one weekend so I bought it. Forgot I had it until you mentioned it. LOL

I'm guessing Project STEAM. I got it day-one and then didn't touch it for a few years. Weird. I noticed some of the rocking music reminded me of Advance Wars. Ah, for another Advance Wars.

LOL, yep I should have mentioned the game in there somewhere.
