Those Terrible, Pikmin Eating, Birds

As I'm playing Hey! Pikmin, I've been getting this kind of terror every time I come across one of those large birds. I can usually chuck a bunch of pikmin on its back to dispatch it, but sometimes I miss and the bird gulps one down, and I hear that little voice cry out. I can't stand to lose a pikmin. They're so adorable, and I don't want them eaten by a giant bird.

I think it's about the size ratios. A pikmin to one of these birds seems about similar to a human baby to an adult. Perhaps it's triggering a primal memory of being vulnerable around giants. Or maybe it's just the fear of being eaten. I've heard this is the biggest fear of children.

In any case, there is something absolutely terrifying about something big enough to eat you. Funny, though, some of the enemies in Hey! Pikmin are even larger than the birds, but they don't scare me. It's just those birds who steadily come for you and your pikmin. AH! I scared myself just thinking about it.

I've been enjoying Hey! Pikmin lately, too. I'm at the last world. I'll probably beat the game in a couple of days.

I'm on area 5. I've been playing it in tiny amounts. I'm finding it very inventive. I just got those shades wearing pikmin that can fly.

I was just looking at the box art. It seems like that bird is gulping down pikmin, but if you look closely, they are just jumping around the bird. Yea right! I know it's a pikmin massacre. Pikmin being torn apart by the raging bird and Olimar desperately trying to pick up the pieces.

Funny I was listening to an Adam Carolla episode where he was talking about how mean birds are and if they were bigger they would bully humans around. Sounds like this is happening on Pikmin.

So what happens to the bird when you throw enough Pikmin on them? Do they just fly away?

If you chuck pikmin on their back they stomp them into a bunch of sparklium. Kind of gruesome, actually.
