Yep, there is just something so special about Wolfenstein.

Yesterday, I bought a new gamer chair, finished up EDF, watched the 1978 Star Wars Christmas Special, and played the Wolfenstein II trial.
Chair. I got this new gamer chair at Staples for $100. I couldn't resist when I saw it plus my current chair's gas piston thingy is empty and so I sit a little too low. It's good to have a solid chair for long gaming sessions. I've been having some lower back issues and maybe this will help solve that; although, I know the best way to probably solve it is to stop gaming for more than 4 hours at a time. Yea, that's probably not going to happen.
Then I beat EDF 2017 on Hard difficulty. That last level I needed, number 51, was tricky. I played it over and over trying different weapon sets. The level, which is near the end of the game, throws every single enemy type, except the kaiju, at you at once. I finally used a combination of homing rockets and a sniper rifle. It was weird to go without a close range weapon, but the homing rockets did that job for me better than I thought possible.
Then I tried a bunch of Hardest levels and did well for a while until I hit a wall. Then I started messing around with different weapons just for fun. I finally came up with a nice pair of weapons and stayed with them for a few more levels but then I hit another wall. I basically decided to stop for now. I wasn't looking forward to the grind, especially in the underground levels where you get instantly surrounded and have to brute force your way out. I'm thoroughly satisfied with my experience with the game though. What a blast, literallly. I hope MS makes EDF 2025 backwards compatible soon.
Then I watched the 1978 Star Wars Christmas Special on youtube. Seriously, this was way weird and not at all fun. But, it was nice seeing the core cast there and lots of unused footage from the first movie. The story is all about Chewbacca trying to get home to his family for "Life Day". You see his family most of the time getting harrased by imperials while Chewy and Han try and break an empirial blockade to get there. There's some songs thrown in, and a circus act, and a cartoon (which was the best part with Boba Fett). I enjoyed like 25% of it.
Finally, I played the Wolfenstein II trial. OMG. This game gets to me on several levels, emotional and physical. I don't know why it gets to me emotionally but maybe the writing and voice acting really is that good. Or maybe it's my long time connection to the series. I'm not sure but I got goosebumps from the first moments and got all emotional about the characters. The gameplay is the sweet spot though. Cruising around in a wheelchair blasting nazis was super sweet. Controls are silky smooth. I had to hold myself back from an impulse buy at the end. These guys at Machine Games are doing this so right. I love the way the trial cuts away at a key moment at the end to ask you to buy it. I wasn't offended at all, I was thrilled. So good. I can't wait to get my hands on the full game.
That's a yesterday. I'm about to head out to see the new Star Wars. It will certainly be better than that Christmas Special.
