Games I'm Looking Forward to in 2018

I decided to rent again. I just don't see how I'm going to afford buying stuff day one, even if I trade them in later. I think I will buy anything that's only available as a download though. They're usually smaller titles at cheaper prices anyway. So onto my most anticipated titles of 2018.

Sea of Thieves. I love what I've seen so far from Rare but I'm not sure how the multiplayer is going to work. If it requires I babble with people, I may not bother. Randos, I can handle. No talk, just do. I don't want to negotiate with people with potentially bad attitudes.

Valkyria Chronicles 4. The developers on this are doing it right this time and keeping to what made the first game so good: amazing watercolor drawing and turn-based battles in their unique style that add some real-time action to the turns. I so can't wait.

Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom. The first game's battle system defeated me about 20 hours in, but what I played I really enjoyed. Trailers seem to show amazing cell shaded visuals like the first one and, maybe unfortuneately, the same battle system. Well, maybe I can get a handle on it this time especially if I train up my monsters a little more. Thank god this sequel is not coming out on a handheld like what happened with Okamiden and Valkyria Chronicles 2.

Far Cry 5. I'm always excited for this series but often the gameplay frustrates me after a while. There was a little too much stealth in the run-and-gun in what I played in Far Cry 3 recently. It's going to look great though and at least give me 20 hours or more of awesome.

We Happy Few. I still haven't got to the demo that came out earlier this year. I like those trailers though and more Bioshock-like gameplay is always welcome.

Secondary to these are a bunch of rpgs that I'm curious about like: Lost Sphear (sequel to I Am Setsuna), Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology, Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Secret of Mana, and Shining Resonance Refrain (in the Shining series).

Of those of uncertain release are: Crackdown 3, Dragon Quest Builders 2, Dragon Quest XI, Earth Defense Force: Iron Rain, Fear Effect Reinvented, God of War, Metro Exodus, Red Dead Redemption 2, and actually Valkyria Chronicles 4 in NA.

It's going to be a good year for sure. I'm excited.

I already got Sea of Thieves pre-ordered. It was half price for a long time at Amazon Canada.

Other games I'm looking forward to next year include VC4, Monster Hunter World, Metal Gear Survive (yes, even without Kojima), and Kingdom Hearts 3.

I am curious about Kingdom Hearts III. I played some of the remastered KH this year. Really inventive and interesting game.

Ni no Kuni 2 has a completely different battle system, I've heard.

I'll have my 'games I'm looking forward to in 2018' blog up in the beginning of January.

Just read this article on the battle system. No more familiar summoning and more immediate action. I think I like that.

Looking forward to it.

I stopped playing Ni No Kuni fairly early on, too. I preordered the game, so I got an incredibly powerful, almost game-breakng familiar. And the battle system sucked. Other than that, pretty much in the dark about what's coming out.

I wanted straight up turn-based battles. It's staying action oriented but simpler, it seems.

I'm looking forward to Biomutant, Bloodstained, Darksiders 3, Bayonetta 3, Dragonball Fighterz, The Last of Us 2, and The Last Night. Also looking forward to see whatever Nintendo announces for the Switch next year, should be good.

Whoa! Biomutant looks great. Ex-Just Cause devs? Very interesting.
