3 Systems, 10 Games

Got my PS3 up and running today. Then set up my Xbox 360 for about 5 games and then got back to Xbox One, played 4 retro games and got hooked on Marlo Briggs and the Mask of Death while waiting for another game to install.

PS3. Got the power cable in. It's one for a PS4 Pro but because it has three prongs, it works on the old models of PS3 too. I logged into my account and redownloaded a few games I bought a while back like Wild Arms, and Suikoden I and II. Then I looked in the store to see if PSone Classics and PS2 games were still there. Nope. I did a search by platform and there were no PSone or PS2 games listed. I guess they're all gone now. Oh well. I should've stocked up when I had the chance.

So I put the PS3 away and hooked up my Xbox 360. I had Namco Museum Virtual Arcade and Game Room to check out. NMVA was fine but the servers are down for Game Room meaning I can't buy anymore games there. I can still play what I have, and that's good, but the application crashes the system everytime you leave it still. I'd mention the games I played but I'm saving that for February's BaD starting tomorrow. Then I hooked up my Kinect and played some Disneyland Adventures. This is a really great game for Kinect, only, I wish there was an option to play with controller only, because after a while I really didn't want to stand and flap my arms around for the Peter Pan flying missions. I liked roaming the park and dancing with Disney characters.

Then i went back to Xbox One and played some retro stuff on Atari Flashback Classics Vol. 1 and 2 and bought and played another pinball game in Pinball Arcade. I'll mention those later too. Then I had a game to install (surprise title) so, while I waited, I tried out Marlo Briggs and the Mask of Death, which I got for free with Games with Gold one month. This is basically a God of War style game. Lots of fighting giant monsters with a bladed pole arm, environmental puzzles and platforming. I got pretty hooked on it and didn't stop. I'm almost at the end. Likely I'll finish it tomorrow.

I think I'll hook up my Original Xbox tomorrow and play some retro stuff there. I hope it still works.

I got both of the Atari Classics for the PS4. I usually play Centipede, Millipede, or Yars' Revenge on those. Lately I've been playing the arcade version of Mario Bros. on Switch a lot.

I played Centipede today. Beat my high score but I don't know how it's possible to clear the screen of mushrooms. I tried. There's an achievement for that.

I'm so glad to hear Virtual Console is on Switch now. Makes me want one even more.

I play Millipede more than Centipede myself. They're both great classics.

Mario Bros. actually isn't a Virtual Console title. Nintendo hasn't done Virtual Console for Switch yet thought they are working on it. Rumor has it that the Switch VC will have Gamecube and Wii games in addition to NES, SNES, and N64. I'm especially excited about the prospect of Gamecube games on Switch.

Mario Bros. was actually ported as part of Hamster's Arcade Archives series. Hamster is bringing most of Nintendo's 80s arcade catalog to Switch. They've already released Mario Bros. and VS. Super Mario Bros, and are going to release the arcade versions of Balloon Fight, Ice Climbers, Punch-Out!!, and a lot of others. Unfortunately, no Donkey Kong or DK Junior due to the lawsuit between Nintendo and Ikegami Co, Ltd, and no Popeye due to the licensing issues. :(

Virtual Arcade is what got me into the Wii. If Switch has that with even more games, I'm going to be sorely tempted to get one.

Most of them so far are Neo-Geo games. King of Fighters, Samurai Shodown, World Heroes, Art of Fighting, Last Blade, and Metal Slug, plus a lot of other SNK games like Magician Lord.

My biggest wish if they do add Gamecube to the Virtual Console, is Tales of Symphonia.

There are a few others like Double Dragon, but I'm really looking forward to the Nintendo stuff more than anything. Even back then my favorite arcade games were Nintendo's arcade games. VS Balloon Fight is actually quite good and an improvement over the NES game, and the arcade Punch-Out! would be kind of an interesting game to have, even though I think the NES and Wii Punch-Out games are better. VS Super Mario Bros gets stupid hard after World 4, because a lot of the later levels were prototypes for SMB: The Lost Levels, and the last warp zone in 4 only lets you go to world 6, not world 7 or 8 as on the NES.

There are some GameCube games I would like that are just too expensive to get on disc. I want Luigi's Mansion again. I stupidly traded it and now I want it for the permanent collection. $50 now though and rising.

Game Room was such a neat idea.  Too bad it was such a memory hog and money sink.  If Namco had gotten on board I might've gone crazy with it.

I discovered a bunch of Konami games in there. There hasn't been a good Konami collection in a long time. Someone needs to fix that.

I hate when I see things on sale and don't buy them, only to find out later they're not on sale and now I really want them.

i'm starting to hop on sales again. I just got the Matchbox track DLC for Forza Horizon 3 for $5. I always regret it when I resist, so I'm going to pounce when the price is right.

Didn't the PS3 have a game room? I remember deleting something similar because I would rather use the space on games I was trying to play.

Hook up the OG X-Box! There's something about that console that's special. I think it's because that was the console that I had a lot of fun with after it got replaced by the 360. So many different games I got to experience that weren't on the PS2. So much fun.

I dont' think so, but it had lots of PSone compliations like I still have Namco Museum Vol. 4.

I hooked it up today. It was so nice to pop in a disc and play right away. No home screen, no install, no signing in, just got right to gaming.
