Time Warped 1980 - Black Knight

Back in the day, I didn't even notice pinball machines in the arcades. I guess they were there, I just never played them, or rarely, because I don't remember a single one. But now that FarSight Studios has brought these games to consoles, I've become a fan of them. I even go to the local arcade on occasion and play the real thing.

Pinball machines were still coming out in the 80s. I didn't realize. So there are four tables marked 1980 on Pinball Arcade. Black Knight is one of them. As with all pinball tables, there is fantastic art work on the score board and table.

I'll say it again. The version displayed in Pinball Arcade on consoles is amazing. You get a real close up look at the action and hear perfect sound. It's a delight to play on console these days.

I finally started fiddling with the camera views and found one I liked. This makes a big difference in playability. I like it when the camera shifts a little when the ball is near the top of the table. I can see the goals more clearly and see what's going on up there. Not too much though, because a lot of camera movement can be bad when that ball is moving fast.

Black Knight is a great table but that ramp can be a real pain. If you let the ball pass the first set of flippers right away, the ball will likely shoot straight down the middle of the table and be unhitable by the lower flippers. The use of a nudge is key here. Don't nudge more than once at a time though or you'll tilt the table.

Isn't there a sequel table called Black Knight Returns?

I think it's interesting that we got pinball tables well into and throughout the 90's.  I think they kind of tapered off after the 2000's, though.

I think it's Black Knight 2000.

I was looking at the Stern Pinball Arcade tables and saw that they are all very recent tables built to promote movies and tv shows. Somebody's still putting them out.

people are still putting out pinball tables, just less than they did I think.

Yea, it's a trickle. I'm noticing about four a year in the 80s on Pinball Arcade. There's a bunch in the 90s too, but after that it slows alot.

I miss playing physical pinball machines.

The current renders on computers are pretty darn close. Just can't hip-check the table.
