Battleborn, Wizardry and Odin Sphere

I tried out Battleborn today, watched Mad Max Road Warrior (movie from '81), played Wizardry a lot and the got back to my rental, Odin Sphere Leifhrasir.

Battleborn: I saw it for $5 at a Five Below, so I thought Mark and I would give it a try. I played the single player portion for several chapters before I kind of got bored with it. It has some design and voice work familiar to the Borderlands series since it is a Gearbox game. The gameplay is fast and reminiscent of Quake Team Arena probably because it uses the Unreal Engine. But also because the level design is mostly wide open arenas and pathways suspended in mid air with jump pads and such. I played the dwarf looking character with the big axe. I was getting into the special moves. He's mainly a melee character but can also throw his axe. I tried to play the campaign publicly but no one was on. I was kind of hoping Mark would join in but it didn't happen. He got hooked on Brave: The Video Game which was a Games with Gold freebie today. It looked not half bad. I downloaded it too.

Wizardry: Played this in a zany way. Party's with all mages, all fighters, half fighters half clerics, stuff like that. None of those worked very well. The game is not that flexible. You really need the classic two fighters, a cleric, a thief and two mages with only slight variations on that to get by. It kind of disappointed me. I wanted six wizards all firing Tiltowaits (massive explosive spell) at once. I even had an imagined story that they were a council of wizards come to put Werdna in his (I always imagined him as a she for some reason) place. I got to level 3 and got trapped behind a one-way door and couldn't back fast enough to avoid the Samurai that lurk there. Ah well.

Odin's Sphere Leifhrasir: I played some of this years ago on PS3. Not sure why I stopped because this PS4 version is incredibly beautiful. I love Vanillaware games. It's a 2D fighter with RPG elements and some crafting. The battle system controls very smoothly, very satisfying. I'm going to be hooked on it next week for sure.

Odin's Sphere is pretty hard. I think I played the PS2 classic on PS3 or something like that.

I'm playing on Easy mode. I figured it might kick my butt.

It's possible I didn't either on the PS2 version. The battle system has been reworked and they added more story elements. I was able to beat that Dragon this time.

Odin's sphere is a 2D fighter? Wouldn't have guessed.

I need to see Road Warrior.

Road Warrior is a classic action movie. I loved the recent one too.

I loved Odin Sphere on the PS2.  I have the updated version on PS4, I just haven't played it yet.

The updated one is so gorgeous. It's just flippin' eye candy.

Not a fan of Battleborn.I thought it started to get boring close to the end boss battles. Of course I played it by myself so maybe the game might be better if I tried it with a group. Heck it might have more enjoyable.

I tried to play public right off in story mode but there was no one connecting. I might try pure multiplayer to see if anyone is still playing it. My hopes aren't high.
