Minecraft, Retro, Odin's Sphere

I had an interest in playing multiplayer today so I jumped in Mark's Minecraft game. Then I played some retro arcade games on Midway Arcade Origins and then more beautiful button mashing in Odin's Sphere.

Minecraft: I jumped into Mark's game in progress and went to find the village he was in. There I built a mineshaft in the floor of the house and got the materials to build my own model railway inside an extention I made to the house. I messed with red stone and switches and got the minecart, which was circling on its own, to trigger a sound cube and turn on a bank of lights every time it went around. Then I enchanted all my gear and ran around the nether looking for trouble. I don't know if the game has been made easier or not, but there were very few mobs in there. It was actually quite peaceful. Not something I expect or really want.

Midway Arcade Origins: More 1981 games I might single out for a blog or two later on. I played Wizard of Wor and saw it listed as 1980. I guess wiki was wrong on that. I played Defender II (originally called Stargate) and hated it. It's a good game, but I'm terrible at it. The enemies are incredibly unfair and hard to target. Then I saw one I missed for '81, Satan's Hollow. This was a fun one. It's a shooter like Galaga but you have a shield and have to build a bridge that takes you to a second screen. A nice twist.

Odin's Sphere Leifhrasir: I finished the Valkyrie story and found there is another story called the Pooka Prince. I started that. It ties into the main story as if it was happening at the same time as the events of the Valkyrie. You start from scratch too. So I'm doing things a little differently. I'm eating every food item that comes my way right away for level and HP boosts. I'm making and using as many potions as I can. And I'm growing every seed I find as soon as I have enough energy to feed them. I ain't messin' around this time. I'm still on easy though so it's kind of too easy for me. I don't want to change it now. I'll finish the stories and then think about a replay.

Well, that's a day, and a week.

You know what game I've been thinking about lately?  Defender of the Crown. I think I had it for NES among other systems. Could never figure that shit out.

I've always wanted to play Defender of the Crown but could never get a hold of a copy.

The voices in Wizard of Wor are hilarious.  Defender and its sequel are super hard!  I have never seen Satan's Hollow in an arcade, but I imagine it would be pretty hard to find around the Bible Belt.

The voices in Wizard of Wor are kind of outrageous.

Defender's alien menace jigger around so much. It's infuriating.

I thought about that with Satan's Hollow. Even more so as there are demon heads in it that shoot fire at you. On the second screen you have to shoot down Satan who appears as a tiny red cherub.

Wiki is wrong about so much when it comes to video game release dates. It's honestly pretty frustrating.

I keep getting ones just a year off. At least compared to what it says in the game collection I have. I still like using wiki though because it's not full of ads and is quick to load, being mostly text. That's the kind of database I want to use.

Sounds like a full day and a week. I never played Odin Sphere but the name is familiar so I checked around (Google) and I remember that game on PS2 being hard to find. I ran into it a couple of times but I always left it for someone who would enjoy it.

I'm debating whether I should sel my original copy since I have the remaster now. Probably won't though. I'd like to play it to compare to what I'm playing now.

Keep the original copy. If anything it'll be a cool piece to have in your collection, especially if you enjoy the game.

I think I played it once and found it difficult. I wonder if this easy mode in the remaster is new.
