I didn't remember Colony 7, but after looking at screenshots, I can see why I forgot about it.
DK64 hasn't aged as well as Banjo-Kazooie and its sequel.

Got the following games. What is it will old games holding their value at Gamestop these days? My current theory is that because people are buying digitally instead of physical, there are less trade-ins and so prices go up for what Gamestop has in physical copies. The theory doesn't seem to fit for last gen games though. I'm paying like $10 a game right now and they should be more like $5. It's annoying to me. Here's the list for today:
Demon's Souls (PS3)
Sacred 2: Fallen Angle (X360)
LoTR: Battle for Middle Earth II (X360)
Dragon Quest VII (3DS)
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Shadow Wars (3DS)
Donkey Kong 64 (N64) - this came in the mail from Jay Street today.
My friend Mark gave me his old CD Rom of Heretic too. I'll have to figure out how to play it on a modern computer sometime.
The other thing is. I'm only buying games with the full original packaging. No loose carts, except for that DK64. Only at Gamestop do I refuse to go anything but the full deal. These are library games after all. They have to look good on a shelf.
I hooked up the original Xbox to play Colony 7 on Taito Legends. This game plays like Missile Command. You defend a city under a forcefield as enemy flying saucers attack. It was annoying that all they had to do was destroy your gun emplacements to win. Not fair at all.
Played some Minecraft with Mark today. I spent a long time trying to build a tiny town and railway to somehow simulate a model train set, like I used to make as a kid. One night though, I got too close to a creeper and got blown up. I play permadeth, so that was that.
Odin's Sphere Leifhrasir: I'm in the Epilogue of the Pooka Prince story. The voice work for this game is really good. I'm also creating huge storms of action as I've boosted my lightning attacks. Without button mashing, I got a 300 combo and a trophy. It was against a giant slime that breaks into tiny slime. There were a lot of targets.
That's a day. One more to make a kind of holiday.
Oh it's all about complete games from the GameStop. Some employees are cool with it but sometimes you run into that one guy who takes it like you disprespected his mother when you ask for a complete game. One employee was really nice and gave me a steel book insted of the regular copy because she said it was in better condition.
As for the pricing, yeah I'm waiting for that drop in prices but it hasn't come. I think you're right about digital, because with the previous consoles I would find a bunch of good stuff usually for under $5-10.
As I reflect on it a day later, I still don't enjoy the visuals, but the gameplay seems pretty good to me now. The camera issues are very controllable once you figure out how to manipulate it. Also, I noticed the sound was really good. The music plays all muted when you dive underwater. Nice touch.
My friend and I had a hell of a time adjusting to shooters on N64 and I know DK64 has guns, so I can feel your pain on that front.
What other N64 games have you played recently? DK64 was always one of the better looking ones to me, so I'd say train your eyes.
I just got the cannon gun thing in DK64. Shooting it is fine. Not going to run-and-gun with it but I can aim carefully and shoot accurately.
Not playing anything else yet on N64, but I'm going to get into it more in July. I've got my retro plan adjusted so I revisit all console generations over the course of the year. Previously I was doing one year a month so it would take me like 4 years to cover everything. After 15 months of that, it feels way too long.
