Today I packed up Gamefly's Just Cause 3 and joined Game Pass. I started the download for Sea of Thieves and, while I waited, played about 35% of Quantum Condundrum in tandem with Mark. Then I played Sea of Theives for a long while, and then I played Letter Quest the rest of the time. Details below.

Quantum Conundrum: This is a 360 game that was free this month with Games with Gold. It came out in 2012. It's a puzzle game very much like Portal. Q from Star Trek narrates. I forget the actor's name. Nerds would know. And I should know, but I was never into Next Generation. I was nerdy about other stuff. Anyway, it's good. Environmental puzzles abound that feel unique and interesting. I really wanted to know more about the story too, but, once Sea of Thieves was ready, I left the game and didn't return.

Sea of Thieves: This game looks amazing and plays great, thing is though, it really has to be played multiplayer to be enjoyed best. I tried to get in there on a big ship with 3 other people, but I don't have a mic or headset and so had to use the preset responses. The other players didn't communicate with me though. They ran around doing things I couldn't understand, so I dropped out and started on a small sloop by myself. I was hoping I'd meet other players even playing solo, but I never did.

This game does not give you a tutorial or anything. So I eventually had to read some stuff online to figure out how to accept missions. I kept looking at my map in the captain's quarters but the start mission thing was on a desk on the other side of the room, which I missed because it was so dark down there. So I started a mission to find some treasure. I got to the island just fine. The ship navigation is easy. Even solo I could do it: raise the anchor, set the sails, and steer. The water looks amazing with real time weather and everything. Fantastic! Anyway, I got to the island I needed to be at and immediately got shot at by cannon emplacements which sunk my ship. I swam ashore and found out it wasn't real players but skeleton warriors. I killed them and started digging where the "x" shows on the map. It's a general area and there were no hints on the ground as to where the chest was. So I kept digging around and never did find it. I gave up after a while and started a different mission.

This one was for a merchant who wanted me to capture wild chickens and deliver them. I got the cages and left for an island. I couldn't find any chickens, only pigs. Then it was night time and I couldn't do anything but wait. I got tired of waiting and left the game.

I guess if I had a bunch of friends to play with, things would've gone more smoothly and these missions would've been completed. Alone I felt I was just wasting time. Darn it if this game isn't the greatest ship sailing sim I've ever seen though.

Additionally, I got spit on by a cobra, eaten by a shark and sunk in bad weather. No problem though, I got respawned on the nearest island with a new ship. Fantastic! I may read up on the game some more, or try it again. I just want to sail those ships.

Letter Quest: I started the Mad Max download, but it would take awhile, so I downloaded Letter Quest. If you remember Book Worm from PopCap years ago, this is very much the same. 2D questing with a Boggle battle system. I got really into it and then so did Mark, who had played it before. I'm going to finish it as much as possible. Great word game rpg.

That's a week. Be back to my XBO next Tuesday or Wednesday. Easter is coming.

I reviewed Letter Quest a while back.

The reason why Quantum Conundrum feels like Portal is it was made by some of the same folks who also worked on Portal.  I like Portal much better, though.

I liked Quantum Conundrum but puzzle games get to me after a while. I must be like gumby, "my brain hurts". (Monty Python reference)

"my brain hurts" is only for when you get your head stuck in the cupboard. LOL

I was a big fan of TNG but I never liked the Q episodes. I felt it took the show out of rhythm. As for the game itself it sounds interesting if its Portal like.

Cary says it's by many of the same devs as worked on Portal. I believe it. It's a quality game. I might go back to it because it has been on my mind lately.

I never liked TNG. I try to, but it just rubs me the wrong way. I don't like the living room style bridge and all the characters seem to lack a backbone to me. It's politics in space instead of frontier adventure like TOS. I might give it another shot soon though. I've been watching some Babylon 5 with Mark because he knows one of the actors on the show. It's not bad.
