I jumped around quite a bit in my gaming today, but all along I was thinking of the type of game I most wanted to play and found it at the very end.
Pinball FX3: Attempted to beat Rangergirl's scores on the Thor table to no result. I feel like I've hit a wall and just can't get past around 50 million on one of my high scores. I suppose I have to get deeper into the mechanics to do that, but I don't really want to. I like the speed of pinball, and when you are going for score, you have to slow it down and control it as much as possible. I don't find that particularly fun. So I'll take a break for a while. Hats off to you Rangergirl, you win.
Odin Sphere: Lehfrasir: While I was on PS4, I continued the Fariyland story and beat another boss, Odette, the Queen of the Dead. There's more to the story though. I found out there's also new prisms you can find by revisiting old levels. I'll do that once I finish the story. I wanted to switch to XBO though, so I stopped.
Halo Wars: Definitive Edition: I browsed Game Pass and saw this remaster of Halo Wars with a fresh set of achievements. I played on Legendary and didn't pass the first mission. Then I played on Heroic and got to the fourth mission, the city, and got stuck. Then I switched to Normal and decided to stop for now. The game still plays and looks great. I'll come back to it again for sure. I noticed Game Pass games are also discounted about 50% for purchase. I'm fine not owning it though.
Cars 2: Returned to this and found it even better in the later levels. The races get longer and more difficult, giving me a good challenge. I'm trying all the different cars for their different abilities: some are faster, others take more damage, and others handle better. They all have funny voice work. I annoyed Mark to no end with the Francesco F1 racer. He woops it up every time you jump.
Massive Chalice: I finally hit my sweet spot with Massive Chalice on Game Pass. This is a turn-based strategy game with world management. You view the action in an isometric view on a grid like Final Fantasy Tactics or Banner Saga. Then on the world map you can control the workings of your kingdom and appoint leaders and their wives/husbands. You are an immortal and can hasten time to see births and other changes to the kingdom. Then you can stop time passing to make changes and go to battle. It's freakin' great, and I've been waiting since 2015 to play this. I wanted a tower defense, builder or strategy game and this will do fine.
Next week though I will have my last rental from Gamefly, Wolfenstein II, so I cannot avoid playing that. So many games. I've kind of given up trying to manage it all. I just go by feel now. Perhaps that's the best way anyhow.
