I really liked Deadpool as well, but I'm pretty sure I also failed the last battle before returning it to Red Box. Short, but sweet game.
Deadpool Made My Sides Split

The library didn't have my God of War yet when I went there yesterday, so I picked out something else for the day. Since I'm seeing Deadpool 2 in a few weeks, I thought I finally play the game that came out with the first movie. This is the Xbox One version that got rereleased a few years later. I sat down to play it and stayed with it all the way, well almost all the way, to the end.
Deadpool, the game, is very funny and has some mechanics that I think should be put in all games. One is the way it reminds you of an achievement. For instance, in one area you have to follow Lady Death through some dark areas. There are chests to open along the way, and after the first one, you get a little message saying you've opened 1 of 11. I like that. Now I know it's an achievement and won't miss it. This kind of thing happens in several other areas of the game and serve mostly to encourage you to explore or interact. They don't want you missing some of the extra jokes they've put in the game.
The gameplay reminds me strongly of X-Men Orgins: Wolverine or Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z. I mean, it's a brawler with guns. There's some platforming here and there and some 2D segments. I really liked the gameplay all the way up to the last mega battle, which I failed. I'm played on the default medium difficulty and it gave me a good challenge until almost the very last round of what I think is the final fight.
This last battle is very long, and brings out some of the faults in the gameplay. One is that some enemies are stonger than they should be. I beat up the big enemies with well placed bear traps and a flurry of combos, but the small fry with the machine guns hide behind cover and brung me to the brink of a respawn in seconds. If I had two of them in a room, they'd rip my health faster than Mister Sinister clones (your ultimate enemy). It drove me crazy. Also, enemies seem oblivious to your withering gun fire and dodge and charge you with impudence. Thus it was difficult to keep from being surrounded. I used my teleport frequently to get out of those situations but the "B" button to do that is the same one to execute a counter move, so a lot of times I'd do a counter move and stay in the area instead of escaping it. That really annoyed me. Finally that last battle is crazy long. I'd been playing all day and I think fatigue finally set in at that last encounter.
I've identified a few things that might enable my victory though. One is that I didn't use the super moves all that much. Mainly because there isn't an obvious energy bar to tell you when they are ready. There's just a short list of the moves in the corner of the screen. This doesn't encourage you to use them. Another is I didn't switch hand weapons and throwable weapons around at all. I like to stick with one but you run out of ammo and need to adjust melee combat here and there. I liked the mallets, uzis and bear traps the best and stayed with them. But I can switch to the faster katanas, laser gun, and grenades on the fly. I should do more of that. So I'll try one more time to finish this game sometime today.
That's all.
