Old and New and Apocalypse Too

A bunch of stuff here. I finished with Disneyland Adventures, dug into some DKC games, popped in some GameBoy games into my SNES GameBoy Player, and roamed the post-apocalyptic landscape in Fallout 4 and Wasteland 2. DETAILS!
Disneyland Adventures: I got to just about 90% of everything in the game. Left on the table were only the last of the Hidden Mickeys, which are pretty tough to find, and Platinum and some Gold medals on the attractions. I really wanted that Gold medal achievement for all the attractions too, but the Pan's Flight one stymied me. I got most of the secrets but I guess I couldn't score high enough for some unknown reason, because I mastered the sword fighting and ran through all four chapters half a dozen times. The flying controls are tricky.
Donkey Kong Country 1-3: I set up the SNES and replayed all of these. I didn't go very far into them though because "platformers". Yea. I have a love/hate relationship with them. I got to the minecarts in DKC 1. DKC 2 you play as DIddy and Dixie. I was reminded of Dk Jr. when climbing the ships rigging. I think I actually liked DKC 3 best because of the world map navigation. I liked jumping in a boat or swimming across a lake to get to new levels. But platformers. Know what I mean?
Dragon Warrior: I have the GameBoy player for the SNES and I have DW 1 and 2 on a Gameboy cart, so yes, I played Dragon Warrior again. The GB Player renders the screen framed by the handheld and then framed by some area relevant art as you play. Very cool. I mean, you don't get to expand the view to the whole screen, but it's still cool.
I got to about level 6 or so before getting randomly ambushed by an unkillable foe annoyed me. Yes, this version of the game lets you respawn at the castle without loss of anything but it just irked me that I could get into an encounter and not have a chance of even fleeing. BS I say. Boy I like this game though. I'm going to play DW2 sometime soon.
Fallout 4: I must've played just a demo years ago, because I didn't remember any of the opening to this game. Super cool though. I played through the part where you enter the vault, get frozen, then get released and have to explore the ruins. I got to Concord (the second town) and joined my first militia group and jumped in a suit of armor. I saw a lizard creature, avoided it, found a dog, and ran up a hill. Then the menus drove me a little nuts. How the heck do you just holster a weapon or switch to another weapon? For the life of me, I couldn't get it to work for me. I figured out how to put an item into the d-pad slots but switching around on the fly just didn't work. I looked through controls and still couldn't get it right. I'm sure I missed something but how can a game make such basic mechanics a mystery.
Anyway, fantastic game, very like Elder Scrolls in a different setting. I'll go back to it sometime. I want to build robots.
Wasteland 2: Another one off Game Pass. I'm deep into this but ran into a block. I have to turn on some water pumps underground and can't get into the last room. Both doors are locked tight and I don't have someone with enough Brute Force to move them. What to do. Maybe I'll look up a guide.
So this is a turn-based battle game like XCOM in a Fallout 4 type post-apocalyptic world. Very deep inventory and skills system. I'm overwelmed but am learning it slowly. I haven't crafted anything yet but I've been battling, switching weapons and figuring out how to heal in the field. Boy, that healing was a pain for me for a while. Trying to figure out the system so I could control who gets healed really frustrated me for a little while. I got it though.
So that's a lot. What I may play later today is uncertain but maybe more Wasteland 2.
