This week I played a lot of Banner Saga until the unthinkable happened. I got stuck on a boss. FIgures. Games. Phah!

I played the first game in the series right up to where I think is the final boss. I beat the first part of the fight but couldn’t beat the second part. They take away my best character and the other five are just not high enough level. Clearly, I’ve made a mistake in leveling in this game. Thing is, you switch groups of characters throughout the game so that you never know who is going to be with you at the end. And I mismanaged my renown. You win renown by making kills and other actions in the game. You use your renown to buy things and level up your characters. Well, my caravan was sometimes out of supplies, and so I used renown to keep their morale up. Clearly, I shouldn’t have done that because those points are critical to leveling up your characters. At least two of the six you get are required to enter the last battle, and if you haven’t leveled them, well, suckfest. The story could’ve given me a clue, I guess, but I like the Varl (giants) and spent a lot of points on them. They also get shuffled around during the story, and so I leveled many different ones instead of just a few. Ah well. I almost threw my controller at the screen when I realized I couldn’t see the ending of the story, but now I’m back to loving the game. It’s so gorgeous and the music is incredible. The story is interesting too. I noticed they are selling a novel of the story as well as a soundtrack. Both are probably very worth it.

Well, on to Banner Saga 2 except that I’ve gotten sidetracked by a Game Pass game while it installed that I’ll talk about next.
