I finished up my week with some Dreamcast fishing games and a few short games I got off Game Pass. Here's a pic of my Dreamcast fishing games and the controller.

dcfish

These are all the fishing games that came out for Dreamcast, I believe. I ran through them all fairly quickly. Sega Bass and Marine Fishing are the best. Sega Bass Fishing 2 is more sim stye with sonar and all. I discovered my motion sensor doesn't work in my controller, so I couldn't actually cast. I played with the normal contoller but it wasn't the experience I wanted. Reel Fishing uses some actual photos to make the environments more "reel". It's ok but it doesn't tell you how to hook the fish or what to do when reeling them in. So it was a mystery how to avoid breaking the line.

I accquired the Game with Gold freebees, Epic Mickey 2 and For Honor. I've played Epic Mickey about to 50% before. Maybe I'll give it another shot. I've heard some good things about For Honor so maybe I'll try it sometime.

Joy Ride Turbo. I believe this used to be a Kinect game and now isn't. You race Mario Kart style with cartoony versions of real cars. Your Xbox avatars do the driving. It's a fine racer. I beat the three main championships and then played some of the tricks locations. It's like a skate park for cars. I played that mainly to gather car parts to unlock more cars. The new cars allowed me to beat the hardest of the championships. My friend Mark went and bought the game and played too. Too bad the online doesn't seem to work anymore. It would've been fun to compete.

kingdom: New Lands: This indie game is in the visual style of a Bard's Tale or King's Quest circa late 80s. It has a little better detail, color and animation then those old games. It plays in 2D and your object is to manage a fort against strange supernatural beasts. You can build defences and manage resources to build your fort and withstand the attacks. There's a day/night cycle and the attacks get worse over time. I found a boat that needed fixing, so I think the object is to build the boat. I got to day 24 before getting my crown taken by the undead, or whatever they are. I almost had that boat built too. I really enjoyed it. I think I return to it next week and build another fort. This is the kind of survival challenge I wish was part of Minecraft.

That's a week.

I got sick of For Honor quick. I didn't see the depth everyone was talking about upon its release and games without stories just don't really appeal to me as a single player gamer.

Let me know how you like it though. Imagine you can play that with Mark.

I put it on a back burner. Who knows when I'll get to it. But thanks for the info. Might be fun for an hour or so.

Back when I was writing for The Dallas Morning News, I remember reviewing a fishing controller.  Not sure if it was that one or a different one.  That was nearly 20 years ago so my memory is a bit fuzzy.

That's the Sega first party controller in the pictures. There's been some third party ones out there. My friend has one for the Xbox.

I've been trying to figure out what could fail in those things. There's no batteries, I think, so what gives. I want to fix it. I used the analog stick for all the rod movements, and that was almost as good, but it's cool to have to move the whole controller around when reeling in a fish.

I'm going to trade Sega Bass Fishing 2 and Reel Fishing. I like the more arcade feel of the others. It's a thing I prefer in all sports games now I think of it. Give me Golden Tee, not Tiger Woods Golf.
