I have yet to play Def Jam Icon, but I did play the installment before it (I believe it was Def Jam Vendetta??) and I really liked it surprisingly. I hate fighting games as a whole, but in Vendetta you could create a custom character and level them up as you progressed. It really made my custom character feel as if it was mine and not a generic character!
Def Jam: Icon, Backlogs, and May Buys

I played the demo for Def Jam: Icon back in '07 and liked it even though I didn't play many one-on-one fighting games. The environments destructed to the music and if you fought to the beat you would get more powerful attacks. You could even time a throw to an environmental explosion for an even greater attack. The graphics looked really good I remember. It was developed by EA Chicago the makers of Fight Night Round 3 which I played last year ostensibly just for achievements but, once I started it, I knew right away it was good and kept playing it for a whole weekend. I'm confident DJI will at least have excellent controls.
I'm excited to play these games I keep adding to my backlog but sometimes one of them is really good and becomes a serious time commitment. A case in point is the game I started this weekend Enchanted Arms. I realized that, after 15 hours of play and 21% completion, it must be at least a 60 hour game. I'm going to keep playing until it frustrates me or May 14th occurs and I have my new game money saved up. I like these backlog games, but every month I like to play something new and current as well.
For May I'm thinking of spending it all on downloadable titles: all the game packs for Capcom Arcade Cabinet, Serious Sam Double D XXL and Skulls of the Shogun on XBLA; Dragon Fantasy Book 1 on PSN; and Crimson Shroud on the 3DS e-shop. These should be plenty for four weeks of gaming and if not, it's back to the backlog.
