Oh, gosh. I haven't hooked up my original Xbox in forever. Hope it still works! I really need to get my butt in gear and go through all the boxes I have piled up in every corner of the cottage so that I can set up a retro game corner.

I hooked up my original Xbox today and it wouldn’t play anything. It just kept spitting the discs back out. No cleaning would solve it. In my depression, I turned to Minecraft for a while until I realized KOTOR II was on the backwards compatibility list for Xbox One. So that’s what I played once it installed.
Minecraft: I started a new survival world again. I found a cave opening and set up base camp. I got my diamond, opened the Nether, got my blaze rod, and started enchanting equipment and making potions. What next? Finding the Stronghold.
I had fun exploring the world and building roads for a while. I was looking for villages. One of them has the Stronghold beneath it. I came across about four of them but none of them yielded the Stronghold, so I gave up and used a precious Eye of Ender to find it. Turns out, it was in a town almost two level 3 map-lengths away.
I searched the labyrinthian corridors of the Stronghold and finally found the Library and End Gate. What next? Getting 9 more Eyes of Ender to open the End Gate. Damn! Endermen have become so hard to find in this game after all the updates and patches. I used to find groups of them in the Nether and could usually get at least one every night in the Overworld. Now it’s like days to catch even one. I wasn’t up to the task after playing half the day. I saw KOTOR II was ready, so I started that instead.
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: Sith Lords: This starts very similarly to the first one in that you are on a space ship where things have gone amok and you have to figure things out. I think the story is very interesting. I was pretty much glued to the tv reading and listening to the dialog. Battles are again kind of automatic, but you can select different options when your character is fighting, like make him use force powers, throw a grenade or use a shield.
I was going to avoid playing this game in my pack of loose discs for Xbox because I knew I would get hooked on it, but it was the only one I had that I could install on Xbox One. My friend gave me his original Xbox a few months ago, so I’m going to hook that up on Thursday and see if it works. I hope it does.
