Looking Ahead to November

I can't resist starting my media searches a little bit early. I love seeing what's coming out and making a list of things I'd like to experience. As for retro, it's not really retro for me in November because I'm reviewing the years 2015-2019, which is recent past, present, and future. Here's some new game releases I'd like to get day-one, if I could.

First is SNK 40th Anniversay Collection for the Switch. The main page for the game shows some of the games but not all. I'm most interested in the Ikari Warriors games, but I would love to try out all the others, some of which I haven't heard of before. There's also going to be a limited edition shown on the NIS page. It comes with a soundtrack I'd love to have, among other things. The plain version will be $40. Nintendo's page shows some screen shots of the games. I wonder what the tank battle one is? And what's with that box cover? I guess they think it needs to be sexed up to sell. Even though I don't have a Switch yet, I'm considering having this for when I do. I love old arcade collections.

Second is Spyro Reignited Trilogy. Ever since I got into Skylanders I've been curious about the Insomniac made Spyro games. I thought it was cool that Stewart Copeland of the Police did the soundtracks for at least the first three games. I'm mainly interested, however, in the back story of Spyro and some other characters that ended up in Skylanders. Here's the game's main page. It will also be less than normal price at $40.

Then there's a Japanese release that peaked my interest, Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth. The first game combines elements of Persona with Etrian Odyssey. Apparently developers from both game series worked on both Persona Q games. I had the first Persona Q game but never got around to it. Now it's out of my collection again. Persona and Etrian Odyssey sound like a great combination. I hope it comes to the US soon, and I can buy it.

I'm getting the SNK collection. That tank game is called TANK in Japan and TNK III in other places.  The lady on the cover with the skimpy outfit is Athena.  Her ancestor is in the King of Fighters games and also got her own game: Psycho Soldier.  I know a lot about SNK.  I may write a blog about the collection when it comes out.

Aisde form Spyro being in them, the Skylanders games don't have much to do with the original Spyro games at all.  The Spyro collection looks more interesting to me than the Crash collection did, anyway.

Cool. I want to play Tank then. I'd love to read your blog on the game. It may be a while before I can justify buying it for myself.

I looked up the stories once and realized that there isn't a strong connection. But there was one other dragon that's a villain in one of the old games that becomes a friend later. Offhand, I forget her name but her story is interesting and, I believe, told in the first three Spyro games. Also, I watched a trailer for the remakes and there's a certain style to the original games that strikes me as similar to Skylanders. It's like a youthful exuberance or something like that.

The dragon you're talking about is Cinder, and I don't remember her in the first three Spyros, but then, it's been a very long time since I played them!

Cinder. I think that's right. I have to look it up again.

I did not know the thing about the member of the Police making Spyro music. Neat.

Yea, he was their drummer. I've seen him in movie credits for film scores as well. Seems that's what you do after your youthful rock career, go into film music.

Or just do both at the same time for a long time, like Trent Reznor. It does seem most successful entertainers have hidden talents and jobs most wouldn't know about.

My brother and I played a shitload of the first Ikari Warriors when we were kids. It's not that great... but we didn't know that. We had a lot of fun. The only real problem with the game, is sometimes after you died you would be respawned behind a wall, and you wouldn't be able to move or get killed, and we'd have to reset the game. Never won it. But had a lot of fun.

I'm excited about Spyro, but I've never played those before. I was disappointed in the Crash Bandicoot remake - not because they did a poor job, because they really didn't - but I forgot about how difficult and frustrating that game is.

I've played Ikari Warriors before. I always wanted it because it was like the next Front Line for me. I seem to remember it being frustrating.

I didn't get into the Crash remake. although I liked the look of it. There were some frustrating segments that made me repeat them one too many times.

Looking at the deluxe edition of the SNK compilation and I would buy it just for the soundtrack and extras. Heck for $65 it's $5 more than a vanilla release of a current title and comes with all the goodies.

That soundtrack is interesting to me. I wonder what's on it. I'd love to have music from all the games.
