Watched a flick, played some Forza Horizon 4, and returned to Banner Saga 1.

I saw Shin Godzilla. This is a Japanese made Godzilla movie from just a few years ago. Effects are amazing but the movie is way too long. There's so much dialog and politics going on on the side. It's handled like a documentary and, at times, actually started getting boring. Godzilla was amazing though, and the destruction epic. I just wish there were more monsters for Godzilla to fight. This movie is more like a disaster flick.

I started going through all the things you can level up in Forza Horizon 4 and tried to get some progress in the ones I've done the least, like photography, Mixer (Xbox streaming), modes of Team Adventure, Tunning, Painting and Blueprints (custom race creator). I gained some levels in Team Adventure but the rest didn't budge for some reason even though I streamed my game, made a custom map, and painted up three cars, photographed and tunned them. I'm not sure what triggers levels in those areas. It's not really important though. i just win some more cash and Wheel Spins. I wanted to check out all those things anyway. I may stop for a while and check in when the DLC drops next month.

I restarted Banner Saga again. I'm going super agro and trying to find fights in every dialog choice. I want to go for the 40 battles achievement. I got Eger (or Iger, I forget now) killed again though. There's an achievement for keeping the young dude alive the whole game but there's at least two dialog choices that can get him killed. I discovered the second one today.

I'm figuring out a few new things about battles that might help me this time. One character's Mark Prey skill is pretty useful. Unfortuneately he's an archer and it puts him in harms way to use. It goes against every strategic instinct I have. It's probably why I didn't use it much before. Ah well, I'm going to have fun hacking away at this game one more time. I hope I can beat it this time.

I looked up December's games. I'm most excited for Wreckfest, a destruction derby game by Flatout developers Bugbear.  And Earth Defence Force 5. The trailer's graphics are pretty much the same as the last one, 2025, but there are a few new gadgets and monster types, like a giant gun weilding frog. Wha? It should be fun when I can get around to buying it.

That's a day. Hey hey.

I saw that Godzilla movie.  Makes me wonder if one of the directors was trying to make a statement about Japanese politics or something.  Unless Godzilla is running for President, I don't want politics in my Godzilla movies! :)

Yea, it was totally about Japan reestablishing it's own identity after a long period of US involvement. Man, though, those scenes with Godzilla are stunning. It should be editted down quite a bit and it'd be good.

I'm actually interested in Shin Godzilla for the reasons you didn't like it. I don't really care about the shlocky Godzilla movies that are just about monster fighting, so I'd be interested in them going back to the political allegory that Gojira/the original was meant to be.

Then again, I guess it could be like Godzilla 2014 and be way too slow in the middle and then finally come to an epic conclusion at the end, but in a way that makes me only care about the ending cause the rest is just SO SLOW.

Maybe I'll just watch the original Godzilla instead and see if I like that as much as I think I might.

Well, Shin Godzilla was interesting for what it seemed to be saying about present day Japan. There's a team of young super nerds who try and figure out Godzilla and also to kind of reestablish an older pre-WWII community spirit. There's a lot of back and forth between older leaders and the new upcoming ones. The inefficiencies of democratic bureaucracy, imposed on Japan by the US, are highlighted.

I'm interested in what the movie had to say, and the more realistic depiction of Godzilla, but it still seemed a bit too long. It's probably because I was expecting shlock for Mark and I to laugh about.

That makes sense. No one wants a documentary when they're wanting to watch Die Hard.

That's right. Lately I've been bringing over action and scifi movies to gaming sessions. I usually avoid anything that's not exceptionally nerdy or outrageous.

I like Godzilla flicks but I don't think this one is a flick I'd watch. I'm more a fan of the campy guy in Godzilla suit movie.

I think for 2019 I should give Earth Defense Force another try. It looks like a fun game, but I never really got into the one I have for the 360.

Godzilla flicks should be just like EDF. In fact, during Shin Godzilla, I would yell out "EDF! EDF!" every time the military got mobilized to attack Godzilla. It's something your troops say in EDF all the time. I love the series and its cheesiness.
