Minecraft Horses

I've rediscovered the joy of riding horses in Minecraft. All that tedious walking is instantly left behind with a good horse.

There are many types of horses in the game. Some aren't that great. They are slow. Others fly like the wind and enable fast movement across plains and open spaces. Of course, Minecraft isn't all open spaces. Forests, rivers, oceans and mountains all get in the way of horse play. But being on horseback is an excellent way to hunt at night. You can cover a lot of ground. I'm usually looking for those elusive Endermen. I usually build lookout towers, but today I rode horses instead - a much better plan.

I remained vegetarian the whole time. I ate nothing but beat soup. It's not a bad food solution. You just keep about four bowls and a pile of beats on hand where ever you are. As for the animals, I made lots of pens to keep breeding pairs of sheep, cows, pigs, chickens and horses. I never really used them for meat, however.

So it was a good session in Minecraft today. Mark and I found everything we were looking for without too much bother. We even dug up a burried treasure without excavating an entire island. I was just beginning to enchant equipment when we had to stop for the day.

Can you name your horses?  Anytime you get a horse in a video game and can name it, I always name it Turbo Horse.  There's a story behind that.  Have I told it to you before?

There are name tags you can find in Minecraft that let you name animals. I'm not sure how to do it but you've just given me another task to figure out in the game.

I don't think you've told me about Turbo Horse before.

When my brother Jeff was very little, he was playing one of my arcade classic collections, this one put out by Konami.  He was playing a game called Circus Charlie.  You were a circus clown and had to clear 2-D obstacles with a circus theme (tightrope, trampolines, etc.).  One of them you had to ride a show horse and jump over obstacles.  This was the worst drawn horse I've seen in a video game.  It looked like a cross between a pinata and a My Little Pony.  You could make it go faster, but the running animation looked ridiculous at high speeds.  So while I was watching him and he did that, I said, "Whoa, now he's a Turbo Horse."  He laughed so hard and was rolling on the floor!  So from them on, any horse in a video game that we play is named Turbo Horse.

Funny game. I have that Konami Classics game on DS that has that game.

I didn't know there were horses in Minecraft. I wonder if they were included in the Minecraft Lego sets.

I think they've been there a long time, I would expect them in the lego sets, but I really don't know.

I love video game horses. But someday I will ride a real horse!

I've read a bunch about horses in the last few years. Two things, they are emotional creatures; and two, falling off them is pretty serious stuff. Proceed with caution.
