Darn, Minecraft has gotten pretty complicated!
Shortening the Grind Fails

My attempt to quicken the grind to getting enchantment buffs for my Minecraft character, Gingerbreadman, failed the other day. That's not to say it wasn't fun anyway, but my goal was frustrated.
My plan was specific, focus on making books for the enchantment table library, which is funny because I'm working in a library in real life. To this end I had a specfic method of mining by making 20 block paths separated by two blocks. It makes a rectangular path. I figure this method maximizes the ratio of blocks axed to resources found, saving time and my trigger finger from arthritis. That part worked rather well, I thought. I had enough resources for the enchantment table after about seven of these rectangular paths.
The next part was growing sugar cane for the paper pages and harvesting the leather for the binding of the books. Sugar cane proved to be easy and quick with the help of bone meal to quicken growth. Leather was the problem. I coralled a pair of cows and bred them. Then bred them again, and again until I had at least ten adults. Cows drop leather most of the time when you kill them, the only source outside killing horses and donkeys - which I resist doing (plus horses and donkeys are much harder to breed). I needed about 135 leather to complete the library. It took way too long and we only just completed the library when Mark and I had to stop for the day.
My next strategy will be to start using the enhantment table before the library is completed. It gives you less powerful buffs to your equipment but even a Loot I sword would help harvest leather faster. That's my plan.
Oh, and along the way I discovered how to keep villagers out of your house. They apparently don't know how to use a button. So you make an iron door with a button on the wall and they can't get in. The unfortunate result ,though, is they line up outside the door waiting for an opportunity to get in. I partially solved this by putting magma blocks in the ground that deliver minor damage. They still refused to take other lodging though. I like villagers but they can get in your way sometimes.
