Saw Film Vice and Wrapping Up 1900s

I saw Vice today.

Vice is a film that attempts to tell Dick Cheney's life story. I went to it for the humor and the cast. It was pretty funny, but it was also meant to be a serious indictment of Cheney. I don't know what to think really. It's clearly a liberal spin on things. I am liberal myself and tend to agree with that point of view, but I generally don't like to get my politics from any side of the issue. I'd like a more objective point of view, which is why I listen to the news from the BBC World Service. I love hearing outsider's points of view. I think it's, again, for the humor of it. I'm less into politcs than humor is basically my point.

Also, I'm trying to wrap up my reading, and related gaming, of the decade of the 1900s in January. I started taking notes on my reading and may do so for the gaming as well. It's good to write things down. It solidifies the ideas in the mind.

Next month is the 1910s. I can't wait to do the research and find some related games to play. With BaD, I'll probably blog about it in detail.

I liked The Big Short because I learned a lot about what happened, given the format. With Vice, I felt like I was being taken through parts of my childhood (I was 10-14 for W.'s presidency) and wasn't that interested in the re-telling.

Oo, Big Short another McKay film. I should go watch it, but I have no time for home movies right now. Theater occasionally and cartoons at my friend's place. Only if I could get my roommate to watch it, which I kind of doubt. Someday though.

I wanted to see that movie Death of Stalin (2017), which has a similar comedy take on history. I dun missed it though.

When you are looking up stuff for 1900s and 1910s, I do hope you can look up stuff on Little Nemo.  Even if you just look up a couple of comic strips on the internet or a video of Little Nemo: The Dream Master on the NES.  Winsor McKay was pretty interesting.

I couldn't find the original strip at my library. Only the recent comic book by someone else. I've played that NES game and it's really cool. Too bad I had to get rid of my 80s and 90s decks recently.

Video game graphics really sucked in the 1900s.

But there were Hanafuda cards and midway games at carnivals. Also western cards. A little chess or checkers? I guess the closest thing might be making up a game with a telegraph machine or gramaphone or telephone. Think about it though, no screens yet. Weird.

Kinda hard to imagine a world without screens now.

Yea. What a weird world where electric lights were the latest technology. We live in their scifi world.

Yeah I'm avoiding flicks that involve politics. There's too much of it going on in the world that I really don't want to watch it in something I should be enjoying. I'll probably catch Vice when it hits HBO or one of the movie channels.

1910's should be an interesting time for games. I think what would be fun for the 10s or 20s (I can't remember the exact dates of WWI) would be Valiant Hearts. I think it is on pretty much every console including iOS.

I saw it kind of on a whim. There's actually some quite disturbing stuff in Vice that I thought about later. It's definitely dark comedy.

I played the heck out of Valiant Hearts when it came out. I've considered replaying it. I think I'm missing one or two achievements. I think WWI starts in 1914.
