Achievements Are My Prizes in Carnival Games

Today I managed to finish The Order 1886 on PS4 and start Bioshock Infinite on Xbox One, but what I did in between was hunt achievements in Carnival Games on Xbox One.

The first thing that happened was that Mark looked up the game on Xbox Live and saw it had been discounted 50% to $20. If I’d known that a week ago, I could’ve saved some money. It was fine though because now Mark had his own copy and we played it in tandem, challenging each other to see who could get all the achievements.

Each of the 20 games in Carnival Games has two achievements associated with them. One is for winning against 3 hard difficulty AI, and the other is a game specific goal, like the batting game asks you to get 5 home runs in a row.

In addition to hunting those, I focused on the achievement for Team Decathalon mode. Here you can team up with an AI player (or real same-screen player) to make a 2-on-2 and play 10 games to see who wins overall. 10 wins and 25 wins each get you an achievement. I set it up with a hard AI as my teammate and two easy AI on the other team. In this way I could focus on the game specific achievements while my ace teammate got the points for the win.I like going for multiple acheivements at once, saves time.

Then there is World Circuit mode. The achievement in this mode asks you to play against 3 hard AI and win 10 times. Sounds easy but you must play all 20 games for the championship. It takes a while and it’s not always a guaranteed win. I can beat the easy and medium AI without trouble but hard isn’t always a gimmie.

Finally, there are some achievements just for progress: number of tickets earned and number of achievements (the least creative achievement type). I think I’ll get close to getting them all but there are a few games where the challenge is tough.

Tomorrow though, I’m going to get back to Bioshock Infinite. I want to play through the whole game again and then do all the DLC I bought but never played when they came out.

Nothing is worse than seeing a game you JUST BOUGHT go on sale or release for "free" on a service like PS+ or Live.

And I KNEW it would be discounted fairly soon but not a week later. Grrrr.

It would be nice if game companies were like regular B&M stores and refund the difference if you bought it within a certain period before it went on sale. Heck even credit in their store would be nice.

The last two achievements, man those would be fun if they offered new DLC games so you could mix up the grind a bit.

I suppose i could've checked to see if it was 7 days yet, because I can return it to GS for a full refund. I think I'm over that now though.

The 20 games provide a good variety of experiences. Plus I have about 8 of them with achievements I still haven't got yet. I have those to work on every Decathalon or World Circuit. I still want a park to wander around it and online play.
