I’m about half way through the game for the second time. It’s enjoyable and uncomfortable at the same time. That's Bioshock for you.
Just like the original Bioshock, you are stuck in a hellish authoritarian society where the people show the worst side of humanity. Despite that, the world created is incredibly interesting and historic, taking place in 1912. Kinetoscopes were especially fun to watch.
It’s a joy to search for collectibles in this game because you come across all sorts of interesting detail. I saw many gramophones, bicycles with the big front wheel, animatronic robots, strange electrically driven devices, propaganda posters, puppet show arcade machines, toys and much more. There’s just a huge amount of creative content in this game.
Combat is great. The one-two-three punch of vigors, projectile weapons and that weird melee/grappling tool make every battle interesting and varied. My favorite Vigor to use was the possession one. I love possessing enemies and watching them fight for me, and then seeing them turn the weapon on themselves. An enemy with a club will bonk himself on the head four or five times. It was hilarious and gruesome, and perhaps disturbing too. You can also use that vigor to possess machines. Vending machines cough up money. I did that on every one I came across.
I spent a lot of time listening to NPC dialog. I basically stood next to anyone I saw and waited a few seconds to see if they would say anything. Usually they did, and I’d get a funny or disturbing conversation. Most NPCs will turn to face you for a second, acknowledging your presence even if they don’t actually talk to you. It’s a nice touch.
So, that’s the week for me, console wise. I guess I’ll be putting Bioshock Infinite down now because Crackdown 3 is out tomorrow. I’ll get to it next week.
