Berserker King Defeated, But What is This?

I got down to level 3 of the Lush Grasslands and found I didn’t wait long enough for the Cutters to repopulate. So, I went to another nearby labyrinth and explored it until midnight. When I returned, the Cutters were there, so I got to work.

bkI led the Cutter around to open all passages, and then I escaped through one of them. In the next area, I had to lead another Cutter around to open more passages. Finally, I came to a door that warned me of a dangerous presence on the other side. This was probably where the Berserker King was, so I went through.

Inside two Cutters tried to cut me off. I had to keep them away and get to the King, which I did. As I was fighting the Berserker King, a Cutter jumped into the battle. He’d been next to me when I started the battle, so I wasn’t surprised.

I used everything on the Berserker King and defeated him without a lot of trouble, but what should happen? Another, even bigger beast, a Cunneros (spelling is wrong, I know), appeared. Wiglaf healed the party of all HP, TP and special attacks, and I got to work.

The Cunneros fought tougher than anything else so far. I actually took some heavy damage. I used every skill to debuff and bind it while buffing up my own team. It brought in some Rollers that were healing it, but I was doing too much damage with my skill attacks. I won and mopped up the Rollers too.

I am now unhappy that I chose Picnic for difficulty. I like a challenge. At least I’ll get farther in this than any EO I’ve played before.

Yup, that’s just like Etrian Odyssey, kicking you when you’re down!

It totally surprised me. If I was on a harder difficulty I would've paniced. Wiglaf does heal you up before that battle though and the game prompts you to create a seperate save just in case. Those things softened the blow. Don't you hate bosses with healing support monsters? That's always a pain.

Ha! That's the best in games, when you think you took out a boss, you're feeling good, and boom, a bigger boss shows up. Oh that feeling of WTF/Bring It comes on.

Um, sometimes it can be very annoying, especially in some Japanese games I've played where there's like 3 to 5 unexpected evolutions, or new bosses or something to make that boss fight last forever.
