Skylanders Academy Season 3

I just finished watching this on Netflix. It's a Netflix exclusive show and not even on DVD. Once a year I get Netflix just to watch it and nothing else.

Skylanders Academy Core

I mainly started watching Skylanders Academy to see all the characters from the games. Then I started noticing the voice work, and now I’m actually interested in the stories.

The main Skylanders used in the TV show are: Spyro, Stealth Elf, Jet Vac, Eruptor, and Pop Fizz (shown from my figure collection above). I love spotting other Skylanders in the show like Sprocket and Kaboom. There are quite a lot of Skylanders shown from all the different games even Crash Bandicoot and his sister Coco.

The voice work is great. There are so many interesting voice actors. Norm Macdonald is my favorite right now as Kaos’ sidekick Glumshanks, but I just noticed James Hetfield does Wolfgang, a villainous, guitar-playing wolf. There are many veteran voice actors in the show who’ve done many voices for games.

The writing is surprisingly good, and season 3 might’ve been the best so far. It’s normally a fight between the Skylanders at the academy and Kaos. Sometimes the focus is on another villain, but Kaos is always a major antagonist.

I guess it’s another six months or so before the next season, if they do one. The show’s been nominated for some awards, so that’s a good sign.

The movie is Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile coming to Netflix later this year.

I'm surprised they're on Season 3 since there hasn't been a new Skylanders game in a couple of years and the 'toys to life' craze has kind of died down. I watched the first season on Netflix and it was pretty good. Pop Fizz's voice cracked me up. Right now I'm watching the new She-Ra cartoon on Netflix and it's not bad either.

Skylanders Ring of Heroes should be just out for phones. It's considered a spin-off game though. I hope they revive the series on console.

Pop Fizz is Bobcat Goldthwait, a stand up comic. His voice was immediately recognizable to me.

I'm glad to see that the game lives on in TV form. It seems like a good fit for a show especially since it has all the characters from the game to pull from.

There's a new phone game just out too. It's around but not for console. The show uses a lot of the characters from all the games - vehicles too from SuperChargers. I love spotting them and trying to remember their names..
