Do I need to play BL1 and how long is BL2's single player?

Today i finished the new DLC that attempts to lead into what is coming in Borderlands 3. I'd say it did a great job of it. I can't spoil anything, but it makes me want to get into B3 sooner than ever. After that, I ran through all the side missions in the main game attempting to get a few achievements I missed first time around.
The new DLC is a good amount of content. It probably took me 10 to 12 hours to do almost everything. There is a RAID boss I haven't beaten yet. Mark and I will have to try it co-op because it's super difficult and meant for 4 people.
Then I returned to the main game and mopped up side missions. I got all but three of them and they seemed to be glitched, but I'll see tomorrow after I reset my console. I'm hoping they fix themselves. If not, I'll start in on the DLC. I've played them before but not to super completion. I will attempt that. There is a lot of DLC content, though, so it may take me a few weeks.
One achievement I got today that was unusual was the Donkey Mong one. This is a random beast that shows up on a certain map. The last two times Mark and I played the game, we tried over and over to get this creature to spawn but without any luck. Somehow, without really trying, I saw it and killed it. It's a four-armed gorilla-looking thing. There are small and king sized ones. This one has barrels strapped to its back. I guess I just got lucky.
And here's a pic of a moment where I tossed a weapon for a kill, not an easy trick to get with the weapon type that lets you do this. Whenever you reload, your character throws a copy of the gun in the air. You have little warning of when it will happen, so you have to think about it ahead of time and aim it.
DOINK!!!
