Inside, Dead Rising 4 and Torchlight

I've been jumping around alot between different games lately, kinda going by instinct. I played Inside, got stuck, thought about it, returned and then got stuck again. I played Dead Rising 4 because I heard it didn't have time limits like the previous games. So far that's true and I'm loving just wacking my way through zombies and constructing new weapons as I go. But then Torchlight showed up this month as a Games with Gold freebie. I've been wanting to play this for years. So I jumped right in, and so did my friend Mark. I'm diggin' it. Further details follow.

Inside: I keep getting stuck but then either a friend helps me out or I just figure it out thinking about it while working. The answers turned out to be pretty obvious, but at the time I was playing, I just couldn't see them. In one case, I had to stop running from a person to avoid another one. It seemed suicidal for me to stop running, but that's what I had to do. Who knew the slight shadow on the side of van was enough to hide behind. Then in another area, I was in a submarine. I smashed it against some cracks in a wall to reveal a wire mesh but couldn't break fully through. I realized later that I probably have to exit the submarine and swim through the wire mesh. But that submarine is so cool. Why would I even consider that? I was in the safest place I could be so far in the game. It seems I have to go against instinct in several places or get myself killed. Which, by the way, this game is brutal; get caught and an ugly death awaits. Those dogs freak me out but at least they can't swim as fast as me. I'm enjoying the game.

I've wanted to play Dead Rising 4 for a while now. It seemed to get rid of the time limits and let you just fight and craft your way out of that mall. Now that's for me. So far that's been true, no time limits, but I'm only a few hours into it. I've made a sledgehammer with grenades on the ends, a crossbow that shoots explosive arrows and a xmas wreath that does electrical damage when set on the head of a zombie. I wonder if I ever get to talk to a zombie? I've heard there's some wisdom to be found.

Torchlight was made by some x-Baldur's Gate devs, I believe. It plays exactly like Diablo. It's really good. You have a pet too that follows you around. I taught mine some useful spells. I also use it like a pack animal and give it everything I want to sell later. I also feed it all the fish I catch to change it into different monsters to help me fight bosses. I'll be playing more of that this coming week, I imagine.

Well, bye there.

I still want to play Inside, but after having no effing clue what Limbo was all about until I looked up a few fan theories (I mean, I get that it's probably, y'know ... Limbo, I just mean I wasn't fully sold on the context) I'm wondering how deeply it'll really affect me.

Looking up the meaning of a drama after the fact is kind of like having a joke explained to you. Seems obvious after the explanation, but the effect has worn off.

The meaning of Inside isn't too much on my mind as I play it. I'm concerned with completing the puzzles and being able to finish it. This is why I usually don't play these kinds of games. Obscure solutions to puzzles do not entertain me.

I enjoyed watching my brother Jeff play the first couple of Dead Rising games.  I liked that you could put Servebot heads on the zombies and yourself.

Yeah, you can do a lot of silly stuff. I got to get my friend a copy so we can play co-op. . . oops, I've just read there's no campaign co-op. Nuts!

Yeah I remember one reviewer complaining that Dead Rising wasn't scary, just silly.  But my brother Jeff and I agree that we don't think the early Dead Rising games were even meant to be scary.

Yea, they are definitely silly.

Fun fact: I have never played a Dead Rising game. The mixed critical reception kind of made me jumpy. In recent years, though, I don't care quite as much as I used to, given that I've enjoyed a lot of games in the 80s or even 70s on Metacritic and can't stand quite.a few games that scored in the high 90s. Dead Rising 4 isn't  likely to happen for me unless it gets ported to PS4 or Switch.

I played the first one when it came out. I liked it but not the time limits. I like photography in games too. Then I played a demo for DR3 and had the same issues with time limits. Basically, I just want to fight the zombies, preferably with a friend in there co-op. DR4 seems to let you fight on your own time.

I've tried games at the top of the Metacritic list and usually didn't like them much. Some of my favorite games are only in the 70s.

You know, I played a bit of Torchlight back when it came out. It's not really my genre, but I did think it was pretty cool.

I watched my friend Mark beat the game today. I played other things because I got kind of bored. I'm a little tired of the whole loot management system in certain games.
