Jumping around a lot this week in gaming.

Zelda Wind Waker HD: I played an hour or so of the game, just enough to get off the first island. I'm less pleased with the graphics than I thought I would be. I guess that's time for you. I love cell shaded graphics but the detail is somewhat lacking. Modern games are ruining me, I guess. I like the way the ocean looks though.

The controls are a little old fashioned too. I feel like it's just a step ahead of Ocarina of TIme. I guess it makes sense since there are only 7 years between their releases. I'm enjoying it though. I don't get much time on my Wii-U, but I'll be playing more of it when I do.

Borderlands 3: I'm playing on Mayhem level 2 and messing around with weapons. I started favoring Valdof weapons. They control well and don't need to be powered up like Maliwan or have slow reloads like some other weapon makers.

I also started another character. This one can jump in a mech as her special. I'm also favoriting Torgue weapons which feature a lot of explosive effects. Thing is, I haven't come across one yet after my first few hours of play. So I'm only using assault rifles, shotguns and rocket launchers of various makers. To heck with sniper rifles, pistols and smgs. I want this play to be all about the big booms.

Gears 5: I've played maybe four hours of Gears 5 now. It's pretty great. i got eaten by a creature and carried around for a while. It's not a new thing, but it was fun. I had forgotten about that creature from previous games. There's a new grenade launcher that's pretty great too. Not much amo for it though. So disappointing.

Railway Empire: Mark bought this train sim on Xbox One and I watched him play it. He got frustrated with it, so I played it for a while. We figured out some problems and then got stuck again. This game looks great and promises to be really fun but it is terrible at telling you how to play it. There are a lot of different options in this game and it's not clearly layed out for a controller. It's a PC game clearly. I like the menu design. It looks great, but controls are a mysteriously implemented. We're both figuring it out slowly and with some frustration. I hope ti becomes easier to play because it could be a new obsession.

That's the latest.

I've got Railway Empire on my steam wishlist. Interesting it's on console now. Very PC style game. A lot of those types of games are tough to figure out. I'm surprised there is no tutorial.

The campaign mode is a kind of tutorial for the game, but it's not done very well. It might be from a bad translation. It's a German game isn't it?

I think the visual design is very good for console play.Controls are confusing though. It's like the button layout changes depending on what mode you are in and it's not always displayed on screen. It drives me a little crazy. Mark's doing well in free-play mode though. Campaign is really picky about where you have to build things and not well explained.

I've always loved the graphics in Wind Waker.  Even when everyone else hated them.

I loved them when it first came out, but now I'm less impressed. I don't know though. I may like it more when I get farther into the game.
