Sherlock Holmes: The Devil's Daughter

I finished this game today. I got all the achievements too, or almost. The game recognizes that I've done them all with an achievement that says I've done them all, but one isn't showing up in the list on Xbox. I'll replay the short case it's connected to and see what happens. Or maybe it'll fix itself on its own overnight.

The game was really fun. I liked the story too. There are multiple cases that don't directly relate to each other, but there is a linking story between them that becomes its own case at the end to wrap things up. I only had a couple problems with a few puzzles in the Aztec temple section. These were several rooms with pressure plates. Usually there is a key or clue as to how to proceed but these seemed to have none. It was just a matter of trial-and-error. i find that sort of thing really tedious and boring. So I skipped them. Yes the game lets you skip some puzzles to keep the story going. It didn't seem to effect any achievements or the case, surprisingly. Luckily it only happened in one case. The rest I completed just fine. Well, except maybe for the final sequence. Not to give away anything but the final sequence has you respond to a situation with many dialog choices. You have to answer correctly to get the ending but most of the choices seem pretty similar. I had to play it half a dozen times before I chanced to find the right sequence of answers. I wasn't going to quit on the very last challenge in the game.

Also, I like seeing period devices in these Sherlock Holmes games. I saw an old fashioned lung machine and a phonograph. Some of these details are really neat to experience in a game.

That's all for Sherlock. I'm not sure what I'll play next. It's always up to the whim of the day.

Yeah, some of the puzzles in Phoenix Wright end up being trial-and-error for me cause sometimes I'm ahead of the game in figuring things out and present a piece of evidence that apparently I should save for later or sometimes I'm just not following the game's kooky spirit medium logic.

I also have issues with dialogue trees in Yakuza where I think my character will say one thing, but goes in a weird direction with it I would not have chosen. So I feel your dialogue tree pain as well.

Anyway, these Sherlock Holmes games sound right up my alley.

The two Frogwares games I've played have been a lot of fun, Crimes and Punishments and Devil's Daughter. Their latest is Sinking City, not a Sherlock Holmes game but a horror thing in the same time period. I'm watiing for a sale on that one.

I'm a big Sherlock fan. There are a ton of games about him. I've heard this one is quite good. Glad you liked it!

This one is by Frogwares. I've played their previous Sherlock Holmes game Crimes and Punishments too. I want to play their latest called Sinking City. I think it takes place during the same era as Sherlock Holmes but it's not about him. I think it's more about Cthulhuean horror or something.

I have it for PS4. It's in the PS4 pile of shame.

I really liked it and it's not overly long either. I want to play Frogwares recent game Sinking City.

Sinking City was on sale a couple of weeks ago. I bought it for Switch but I haven't touched it yet.

Been busy playing DQ XI on Switch but I think I might start something else shortly.

That's pretty cool that you beat that Sherlock game!  The version of Sherlock in the Phoenix Wright vs. Sherlock Holmes game has a cool anime design and wears steampunk style goggles over his double brimmed detective cap.  Too bad we never got those games.  The titles of those games aren't actually Phoenix Wright vs. Sherlock Holmes.  The games are called The Great Ace Attorney and you play as Phoenix Wright's ancestor.

That's cool. I think I tried one of the Phoenix Wright games once on DS. I'll have to try one again when I get a chance.

I really want to play these games. I have Crimes and Punishments, just haven't gotten around to it yet. I need to pick up The Devil's Daughter at some point. I hear the new game from this studio...The Sinking City, I think?...is good too. Very Lovecraftian.

The Sherlock Holmes games by Frogwares are very good. I can't wait to try Sinking City when it eventually goes on sale again.
