Three Games

The glitch with the achievement in Sherlock Holmes: Devil's Daughter fixed itself I noticed today. If this was PS4, I'd have a Platinum trophy. I wish Xbox would acknowledge completing a game 100%. After that I played Subnautica, Road Redemption and most of all, Afterparty.

Subnautica: This a first-person survival game. You crash land on a planet and have to gather resources to repair your escape pod. I say "land", but prehaps "splash" is more acurate because you are on an ocean. So you spend most of your time diving for minerals and plants. First, I died of radiation trying to investigate the downed space ship. Then I died being attacked by small aggressive alien fish in an underwater cave. That's not what frustrated me though. It was contemplating the long and repetitive efforts to gather enough matterials to build such things as batteries. Maybe I wasn't in the mood today. It's a beautiful looking game though.

Road Redemption: I got this on a sale a few months ago. It's been on my watch list for probably over a year. This is Road Rash 3D for modern systems. The major difference is that it's designed as a rogue-lite. You play levels until you run out of health, then start over again. You earn XP though and can permanently upgrade your stats after each death. So there is progression that makes early levels easier over time.

Combat is just as fun as its inspiration, Road Rash 3D. It's fun to kick and batter other motocycle riders and watch them fly off their bikes. I played the campaign for a while, then time trials and then online. You race 2v2 and fight your way to the finish line. My friend Mark bought the game after watching me play it. It's almost as fun to watch. I watched Mark toss enemies all over the screen. It's kind of hilarious, in a grim way.

Afterparty: This made by the Oxenfree devs. It's a classic point-and-click style adventure game. Dialog is more important than any gameplay. You direct two characters through hell and are tasked with drinking all the classic western demons under the table. Drinking is a big part of the game. When you choose a drink and imbibe during a dialog sequence, it opens up more choices. It often creates a very funny result. All the dialog is witty and funny. It's all about the anxieties people have when graduating from college. I'm enjoying it.

That's all for now, other than the fact that I counted the number of video game related books in my library. The number is 50.

After playing Road Rash 2 on the SEGA Genesis Mini, I don't have a desire to play another one.  I guess I just didn't 'get it.'

I wasn't all that thrilled with the Genesis Road Rash games either, but Road Rash 3D on PSOne, oh yeah.

It seems really good, I was just not patient at the time.
