Starlink, Advance Wars and Zelda Wind Waker

I saw Starlink toys and game on sale today and couldn't resist. I've been playing Advance Wars Dual Strike on my DS here and there. And I'm at the next island in Wind Waker, and stuck again at the Deku Tree. Thank god for wikis.

Starlink: Battle for Atlas: I got the starter pack, a ship and pilot (The Neptune with Judge) and a pilot (Kharl Zeon) for half of what they cost originally. I was going to get the physical toys and then the digital game but you need the holder to attach the toys to your controller that you can only get in the starter pack, so I got the whole shemeel. They were all marked down 50% at Gamestop. I'll try it all out on Monday night. It's like Xmas gifts for myself.

Advance Wars: Dual Strike: In thinking about my top games for each system, I got back into Advance Wars. I started over and did the first 5 missions so far. This is super enyoyable for me. I never got really far in the game though, so I'll see how far I get this time. It gets hard down the road. I like to just see how my strategies play out rather than crunch the numbers to get to the solution to each level. That's why I never finish the game. I usually start losing a lot later on. It's ok. I'm going to play Days of Ruin next when I get too frustrated with Dual Strike. I've never played Days of Ruin even though I've had the game for years.

Zelda: Wind Waker: I solved Dragon Roost Island and now I'm at Forest Haven Island. I got in front of the Deku tree and couldn't solve it's acne problem. Turns out, from a wiki I read, I have to roll attack the tree to shake off the slimes and then kill them. I never though to just throw myself at the tree. What a weird solution. Anyway, I have no shame in looking up a wiki to solve these things. I think, often times, these solutions are obscure and unfair. To heck with it. I just want to sail the oceans and talk to fish.

I reviewed Starlink last year.

I can't imagine getting anything but the Switch version, though, because of Star Fox.

I think the only other Starlink thing I'd get is the Razor figure, because I think she looks cool.  But the figures are so dinky it would have to be REALLY cheap for me to get it.  And I really don't play Starlink anymore anyway.

I've never played Advance Wars or Fire Emblem.  Just not into strategy.

In Wind Waker's defense, and this is kind of a weak excuse, but in past Zelda games since Link to the Past, running into trees to knock things down from them has been kind of a puzzle staple. Plus it's just fun to make Link run into things like an idiot.

I use guides all the time.  No shame in that.  Games are supposed to be fun, and getting stuck in one isn't.  So whatever you have to do to make the game fun is fine.

I think we are spoiled with the Internet now, since it's so easy to look up a guide.  Remember when we'd have to get an actual guide or wait for a magazine to get a solution to a game problem?  I do miss print strategy guides, though.  Many of them were MUCH better written than today's online guides.

The standalone figures were $2.99 this week at Gamestop.

I hate it when I have to look something up. It's like, I failed or the game failed, both situations are bad.

I was thinking of those printed guides too. I think I'd rather do that then have to wait for web pages to load like I do. [Note to web designers: enough with the giant images, too slow].

I miss having an easy-to-navigate physical strategy guide.

I was starting to collect them at one point. Not any more though.
