I passed up on reviewing Captain Spirit. Just didn't grab me.
One of the first things I learned in my early days of playing RPGs is: Never run from battles.

While waiting for Jedi Fallen Order to install I played through The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit. Then I played Jedi Fallen Order for a good long time and finally a few hours of DQXI to finish things off.
Captain Spirit: This is a game by the makers of Life is Strange. I actually tried to play Life is Strange 2 and the game suggested I play Captain Spirit to get some background on one of the characters. It was a free download, so why not.
I liked it. You're a kid with an alcoholic dad and a mom who has disappeared, maybe killed in a car accident - it's not exactly spelled out, at least with what I played. You explore the house and surrounding yard and have six or seven missions to complete. I didn't realize it but, if you wake up your dad from his drunken sleep by the tv, it brings the game to an end. So I only finished 3 or 4 of the missions. I think if I'd done them all, I'd have found out what happened to mom. I didn't go back though because my other game finished installing.
Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order: This game looks amazing and I like the story better than the latest movie I just saw. You're one of the last jedi keeping a low profile on a Empire spaceship yard until you are discovered and all hell breaks loose.
The fighting is all melee with light saber and force powers. It feels much like a Souls game in that battles cannot be won by mashing buttons. It takes a more measured approach. But I didn't find it as hard as a souls game, at least not in the first half dozen hours or so. There is also platforming, sliding down slopes and some environment puzzles.
I liked it quite a bit until I got to a puzzle room I had no patience for. I knew the solution but it took some careful use of force powers. I was in no mood to fuss with it, and since I couldn't go forward in the story anymore, I stopped.
I will revisit it someday though. The battles are really fun against storm troopers and all sorts of interesting creatures on the various planets you can explore.
DQXI: I'm at the part just before I'm supposed to return to Cobblestone for the first time. I like the twist in the story right in the first few hours. It makes it very interesting.
I have to say, though, I'm avoiding every random encounter where I can. I figure if I can run past them, I will. I just want to explore and see how the story plays out, do some side missions for townsfolk, and basically have a fun time. I fear I will be underleveled when I inevitably go up against bosses, but I can always grind then.
I'm really having a time with game battles lately. I just can't be bothered. I'd rather hunt, see the sights, hear the sounds and customize my look.
