This time I found a list of Wikipedia. This one takes 45 different all-time greatest game lists and notes the ones mentioned the most. From this I made a list of games I’d like to enter my personal library. Here are they:

Galaga
Gauntlet
Another World
Day of the Tentacle
Doom
NBA Jam
Phantasy Star IV
Secret of Mana
Donkey Kong Country
Duke Nukem 3D
Final Fantasy Tactics
Half-Life
Planescape Torment
System Shock 2
Diablo II
Silent Hill 2
Beyond Good and Evil
Psychonauts
Dead Space
Red Dead Redemption
Dark Souls
Last of Us

Notes:

I’ve always wanted to play Another World. It’s a platform/action adventure game; I guess like a better Pitfall? I believe it was remastered and made available on PSN at one time. Maybe it’s still there?

Even though I’ve been frustrated by other Lucas Arts adventure games like Monkey Island and Grim Fandango, I’d like to see Day of the Tentacle. I’m pretty sure the remaster is on PSN still.

Planescape Torment intrigues me. Is it like Diablo?

As much as I should put Red Dead Redemption 2 on my list, I’m still overwhelmed by it several months after playing it. I wouldn’t mind playing the first one though. I think I own it digitally.

I resisted putting Last of Us on my previous list, but I should really play more of it. I’m not totally into the setting but the several hours I played earlier this year were stellar.

Planescape: Torment is a D&D offshoot and is very story-heavy, with writing that is supposedly second to none. I'd love to play it. It recently got a port to the Switch, which is, you know, a system you should totally get Wink

Ported to Switch? I'm quckly falling off the fence onto the side of getting a Switch.

Another World is a game of figuring out what precise actions will enable you to survive the various scenarios presented and progress the game/story.  It's Dragon's Lair with more player control. Nowhere similar enough to Pitfall to say it's a better version of it. It's a worse Flashback, I'd say.

Planescape is a party based CRPG, with pausable real-time combat, using DnD 2nd edition rules and character development.  Most of the problems in the game are solved through the extensive dialogue system, with lots of branching based on what conversation options you pick.  It's nothing like Diablo.

Okay, interesting. I want to try both.

Galaga is on PS4 and, I believe, X1. I know I have it on Switch and PS4. Along with Centipede it was one of my early go-to shooters.

Final Fantasy Tactics,.. what a classic. Was a game I didn't expect to like yet I enjoyed it enough to start over when I screwed up at the end of Act 3 and played it to the end. If you do get this game, keep two save slots every time you go to a castle where a battle awaits, as they're usually multi-part battles and you can get stuck in an unwinnable situation.

I think Galaga is great but it was never my favorite arcade game.

I played some Tactics way back and was overwelmed by all the jobs you could choose. I'd like to play it again.

And here's my picks from that list:

Galaga

Gauntlet

Day of the Tentacle

Phantasy Star 4

Secret of Mana

Donkey Kong Country

Psychonauts

I gotta play Psychonauts again. I never did beat it. I wonder if they will remaster it once P2 comes out?

It would be cool if they did.  That game deserves a remaster.  It was my GOTY in 2005.

Dead Space is a great game. But I'm a bigger fan of the second one. That game is great. It's too bad that series just kind of died.

I have both on my list somewhere. I remember getting the comic for it and really liking it. I think it was by the same writer as on the first game. But I bounced off the first game because I didn't like the Resident Evil style tank controls. At least that's what it seemed like to me at the time. I want to try it again though. Love the story behind it.

I own Day of the Tentacle via PS+. I should play more of it. Wouldn't take long to download again.

I know I'll get frustrated with it, but I'm going to try it.
