Namco's Xevious

Xevious is number 3 on my Top 40. Question is, do I still have this game, and do I have something physical with this game on it? The answer is yes and yes, but do I have everything? Here’s what I got and don’t got.

Namco Museum Vol. 2 (PS): I used to have this but now I don’t. Do I want it again? Maybe, but I do have a lot of other more recent collections with Xevious. So maybe not. (might be on PSN on PS4?)

Namco Museum Battle Collection (PSP): I still have this, thankfully. It has the original port of the Xevious arcade game. I like that you can turn the PSP sideways and get that vertical screen the original arcade cabinet had.

Namco Museum 50th Anniversary (Xbox, PS2, GC): A while ago I gave all my original Xbox games to Mark but he’s been kind enough to give me back any I still want. I’m pretty sure I had this in my collection, so I’ll check this weekend. It contains Xevious and 15 other arcade ports. They did a GBA version too but it only has 5 games and none of them are Xevious. I have this game but I won’t put it on my shelf just yet.

Namco Museum Remix (Wii): I have the upgraded Megamix version of this. It has Xevious and 17 other arcade ports, plus several remixed games.

Namco Museum DS: I could have sworn I had this but apparently not. I want it. It has Xevious but also Super Xevious as an unlockable. [update. Gamestop sells this for $25, yuk!]

Namco Museum Virutal Arcade (X360): I still have this. It has Xevious as released on Xbox Live Arcade with achievements. There are a lot of games in this collection, 35. It is not backwards compatible with Xbox One.

Namco Museum Essentials (PS3): I didn’t know about this existing. I didn’t know it also has a 2009 sequel to Xevious called Xevious Resurrection. This must be mine. [update: removed from PS store in 2018. darn]

That’s about it except for a couple of others. The most recent Namco Arcade collection is on iOS/Android, but I don’t care for that platform. I’ve always wanted Xevious 3D/G on Playstation, but I may not pursue it.

Digitally I own Xevious on Xbox 360 but I don’t think it’s been rereleased or made back compat on Xbox One. I guess I really don’t have an option for Xevious on current systems except I think I saw the Namco Museum Playstation games on the PS4 store. I’ll have to check that out.

I've always been fascinated by Xevious for some reason.  Not sure why.  I know i've told you the story on how I used a bunch of dot matrix printer paper to make a Xevious map so I could play 'pretend' Xevious as a kid.  In Japan, Xevious even has a large backstory with novels and everything!

Too bad you don't have Xevious 3D/G+.  It had all the Xevious games up to that point, including Xevious Arrangement, which hasn't had another home port since.  The only Xevious game I haven't played is Solavou.  It's a 3-D arcade game that uses the same engine as StarBlade.

I was fascinated since the time I played it in the arcade. I can still remember exactly where it was placed in that room for some reason. I would go down the row of arcade games and try stuff, but I'd always linger with Xevious and play a bunch of games on it.

I've always wanted 3D/G+. It's around $50 right now. One day though.

Devious

Mischevious

That's all the rhyming I can think of at the moment.

I think Devious would be great name for a game. How would Xevious be different with that name, I wonder? Maybe you play as a mischievous alien bombing an actual golf club. Maybe he's half groundhog, bringing in some Caddyshack references.

I've mostly played this through the Namco Museum series on PS1, but I remember it was ported to a lot of home computers in the 1980s. In the SNES RPG Earthbound, you can hear bits of the Xevious music playing in the Onett arcade. I guess Namco didn't get ruffled up about it enough to sue Nintendo over it.

I think I was hoping it was put into Lego Dimensions but it wasn't. It's cool to play old games within a newer game like Wolfenstein 3D in Wolfenstein New Order.
