Featuring Peggle

Today I played a bunch of Peggle Nights, Gears 5 Hoard mode, a touch of Batman Arkham Knight and just a skosh of Kingdom Hearts III - like a desert on a four course meal.

Featured Game of the Month:

I've been rearranging my featured game of the month list around a lot. I'm basing it on history now, 12 periods in gaming, one each month. This is the fourth month, so that means I'm looking at the 70s up until Space Invaders in '78.I started with Pong but didn't really want to revisit that. Then I expanded to all ball and paddle games and wanted to play Breakout. I didn't know there were so many brick-breakers out there. I looked at Arkanoid and Arkanoid Live on Xbox, but it was $10. So I read a Giantbomb article about games like Breakout and saw Peggle Nights. I like Peggle pretty well, and I already own the main game. Nights is an add-on. It was $5 and my gift card from rewards points last month covered it. So April will feature Peggle Nights and possibly more Peggle after I'm done with it. .

Peggle Nights: I played through all the levels but one in this add-on to Peggle. The game is a interesting cross between a brick breaker and pachinko. You aim and shoot a ball at pegs below and try and get all the orange ones before you run out of balls. At the bottom is a basket that moves back and forth. Get a ball in there and you get a free ball. There are many other special abilities featured on specific levels. There's even a kind of story as each set of levels is hosted by a character. It's fun, but I can't beat that final level. What will I do?

Gears 5 Hoard: I played all 50 waves in a session of hoard mode with several random players. I got kind of frustrated with it because I'm tired of the active reload, and I'm tired of being constantly surrounded. The game is designed around taking cover but you can't for more than two seconds because enemies are spawning in all around you. My favorite rounds were when I could get my hands on the spiked club that one of the enemies drop. I just ran around and crushed everything in sight. I think, though, that I don't want to pick up another piece of ammo or reload another weapon for a long while.

Batman Arkham Knight: I just played it to get 20 thug beatdowns for a rewards quest. I retired the game for now and removed it from my hard drive. I've got Halo 5's 100GB to install for another rewards quest but I'll be back for sure.

Kingdom Hearts III: Played just a skosh. I almost got to the castle on that Tangled planet.  Battles are fun but I could do without that horse and chariot special. I can't see a thing when I'm flying around in that thing.

Food shopping day is tomorrow and I'm thinking of giant stacks of pancakes I'm going to make from scratch for the week. Yum.

I hate installing 100GB games. I have yet to play enough of Read Dead Redemption 2 to justify it.

I'm going to see how long it takes to do the 100GB of Halo 5. I started it around 8pm on Wednesday and will check it tomorrow at around noon. I expect it to be done, but lately it's been slower than even my generous allowance.

I just reviewed a Peggle-like game called Roundguard, actually.

Oh man, that game looks perfect as my next thing after Peggle. It's still $20 though, so I'll wait for a sale.

I just bought BreakQuest on PSN. I'm hoping it's good.
