Yeah, I've never loved stealth in video games that aren't made specifically for it and don't get why so many people apparently do, or do game companies just see the success of MGS and assume they should shoehorn it in?
Sneakity Sneak

Not a fan. I dont' like sneakin' in games. I'm no Gollum. But I did a lot of sneakin' the last few days in several games: Fable Anniversary, Alien Isolation and theHunter: Call of the Wild. I am so done with that.
Fable Anniversary: I actually got past the sneakin' part as your approach the bandit camp, but it frustrated me in that I couldn't do it in the regular way. I tried to slowly sneak around each guard. That didn't work. I almost gave up, but then I just thought to brute force it, hide until several passed me and then run for the gate. It worked.
I ended up quiting after a different quest. You have to rescue a kid from a Hob cave. I saved the bandit and we cleared out the hobs, but he died. Then the sprite, who was keeping the child hostage, told me to get another human to replace the kid if I wanted him. Well, the bandit done died and there was no one else nearby. So what to do. I got so mad thinking about searching the world, getting someone to follow me, and giving him to the sprite, that I quit. In retorspec, I realized I maybe couldn't have just fought the sprite. Typical of Fable 1, it seems, when you are given a quest, you don't always have to follow it. You can just break some teeth instead. Kind of goes against my goodie two shoes goal though. I feel like the game is always tempting you towards evil. Naughty game.
Alien Isolation: What a great game; just wish I didnt' have to hid all the time even on easy. I needed 20 minutes of hid time against the alien for a rewards quest. I got far in the game before I really got chased by the alien. It was truely scary to be run down by that H.R. Geiger menace the first time. Second time was funny, third time was in the back and I felt like a victim of a praying mantis. I was doing pretty well though. The motion tracker is really helpful.
I also had to hide from androids. One got it's hands on me, but I wiggled out of it and ran. Those working joes are slow. I crafted noise makers and flash bombs to help, but they didn't really help as much as just hidding in a box or locker. I thought it was hilarious looking through the vents of the locker with my motion tracker up in the lower left of the screen. What a image of paranoia, in this case justified. What a great game, though.
theHunter: Call of the Wild: I played it for rewards points which I didn't get because, apparently, I'm not good at stalking animals. This game looks amazing and is a joy to explore, but darned if I couldn't find hardly any animals even though I tracked them well. I got a couple shots at deer and one at a moose. I tracked their blood stains but never found them again, except one deer I found by total accident lying half dead in the brush. I claimed my only kill that way.
I liked the way you get sound cues. Animals make sounds you can notice and the narrator tells you what they mean. A Jackrabbit thumping tells you it has noticed your presence. I only wish I could then have seen one. I never saw a single rabbit, cayote or bear even though I tracked all for what seemed like miles.
I always liked this old game Cabela's African Safari on Xbox 360. It was a hunting game but sort of arcady in gameplay. You could reliably find animals and try your luck bagging one. Here it seems like the animals always see, smell or hear you miles away and can never even be seen. I quit the game because it was clearly going to take me way to long to get to 5000 score for the rewards quest.
Uncharted 2: Started this again for fun, but it turned out to annoy me. I got to the first heist in the museum where you have to sneak around and take out all the guards. I got into a big open area with a fountain, took down several but then couldn't get any more. They kept seeing me. I don't know what I was missing, because I've beaten this area years before, but I was in no more mood to sneak around. Out I was and into a nice tower defense game.
This whole time I'm watching my friend Mark play Doom Eternal and wishing I could play that instead. He's just about to beat the game.
