I'm playing a lot of games from 1985-89 this month but also some new stuff that came up, older stuff, and old but not so old stuff too. I'm playing everything, but I'm thinking about '85-'89 mainly and what it all means to me, music, games, books, film, you name it. So here are a few screen shots and a list of stuff I've been playing, if that's interesting to anybody.

The List:

Batman The Telltale Series. Finished it up. I still don't like the story, but it was well done.
Captain Commando. Played this Capcom beat-em-up. I played as a baby controlling a mech. It's great. I forget if I finished it or not though. I'll have to go back and check.
Borderlands 3: Mark and I finished all the challenges for the latest event. Boy that was fun.
Oxenfree: I got stuck on this game a while back but this time I beat it. I'm not sure what held me up, it wasn't overly challenging if you just followed the story. It was great. I really liked it.

Deliver Us the Moon
Deliver Us the Moon: I saw realistic moonscape in a trailer and I was in like Flynn. I loved this game. It's mostly a walking simulator with puzzles and some light platforming, but I loved the setting and story. I removed it from my drive after I beat it but I can't stop thinking about it so I'm reinstalling it to go after the other achievements. I can't wait to drive that moon vehicle again.
Streets of Rage 4: It's incredible. So true to the other games but better graphics, smoother less unfair gameplay and online play. I played with a random and it was very fun. I haven't beaten it yet though.
Gauntlet I and II on Midway Arcade Origins: These games are hard but fun. I also got the NES Gauntlet I and played that. Less difficult so a bit more fun.
Commando, Ghosts N' Goblins, Gun.Smoke and Section Z on Capcom's Arcade Cabinet: I bought the all-in-one pack to get all 17 games. Commando is great but hard. So is Ghosts N' Goblins. Gun.Smoke is interesting. You use three buttons to shoot in three directions. It's hard though. Section Z is excellent too. Side-scrolling shooter. You're a guy with a jetpack with a gun. You can turn around to shoot the other way like Defender too.
Namco Museum Virtual Arcade: I tried to install this on Xbox One but it only installed the Xbox Arcade games and not the museum games that has Sky Kid, the one I wanted to play. So I played some Ms. Pac Man, Galaga, Galaga Legions, Mr Driller Online (which is excellent, but hard), New Rally X, Dig Dug, and Pac-Man.
8-Bit RTS Series: I went back to this and replayed the tutorial and beat the second mission. I got unit building down now. This game is my Warcraft II on Xbox right now.
Nemesis and Twinbee on Arcade Classics Anniversary Collection: Call this the Konami collection. Nemesis is the first Gradius game, I believe. Anyway, it's great but hard. I still can't get past those volcanoes. I love Twinbee and did very good in it today. I beat the first boss and got to the second one. I actually got the first achievement for 50k points scored, which is probably the best I've ever played it.

Ishi
Bulletstorm Full Clip Edition: I recently got this on a sale. I played it years ago when it came out, but I wanted a digital copy and to replay it. I'm playing as Duke Nukem and really enjoying it. It's a potty mouth, bloody shooter with acrobatic throws with a electric leash that throws enemies into different wacky obstacles. You score points for the creativity of your kills. It's super fun and delightfully irreverant. It's a like an adolescent's dream come true. I guess that's still there inside me.

hyperkin3

Finally, I bought a Hyperkin 3 so I can play NES, Genesis, and SNES carts. I'm getting Gauntlet 4 on Genesis in a few days. I can't wait to see what that's about.

That moon game sounds intriguing and I need to download me some of that sweet Streets of Rage 4.

Hyperkin 3 looks cool.

I think Deliver Us the Moon is better described as an adventure game. I call anything without gunplay "walking simulator" now.

The Hyperkin 3 is one of those older ones they made. It comes with component cables instead of HDMI, but I'm fine with that. The newer ones are $70 and I like $50.

I like walking sims.

By the way, if you see JimBeamHortonWho playing Streets of Rage 4 on PSN, feel free to jump in.

Funny you should mention Captain Commando and Baby Head, since my last blog was about that.

I'm working on reviewing Streets of Rage 4 right now.  Can you guess who my favorite character is?

If you like Twinbee, check out Twinbee Yahoo.  I think it was the last Twinbee game the made and it was for the 10th anniversary of the franchise.  It's really good.  Did you know there was a Twinbee anime?

In Streets of Rage 4 I played as Cherry Hunter because of the guitar attacks, but you would probably like Blaze Fielding better.

That Twinbee game is Japanese only? I'd love to play it though. I have Detanna! Twinbee on a collection somwhere. That's my favorite so far. I wonder if the anime has been localized. I'd love to see it.

You know who I wish was playable in Streets of Rage 4?  The police lady!

I don't think the TwinBee anime was lcoalized, but I know the Goemon anime was, because I have it on DVD!

I can't think of who the Police lady is in SR4 right now but I'll take a look next time I play.

Hum. . . Goemon. A regular Japanese Robin Hood. Interesting.

Police lady's name is Estel Aguirre.

The Goemon games are pretty weird.

Good to know about Streets of Rage 4. I saw it and debated on giving it a spin.

Happy gaming with that new bad boy. One of my friends bought one just to play his old Sega Genesis games.

I love playing as Cherry with the guitar. She slams it down on people and when you use it for defense she just strums a chord to send sound waves everywhere.

I have owned a NES, Genesis and SNES and various times, but I traded them all at one time or another. Now I can play them all on one console. I used to think all I needed was various collections on other consoles for those systems but I'm finding more games that can only be played on the original carts. I'm glad to have it so I can play stuff from that era.

Seems like everyone is playing Streets of Rage and it's great. But... I might wait for a sale.

I would have too if it weren't on Game Pass.
