Minecraft Update

This new update added several things to The Nether World: new biomes, matterials and mobs. There are also four new achievements, so Mark and I started up a new world to get them all.

Slimes in the Mine

We Got Slimes in the Mine!

The first achievement was easy once I figured out how to make a target block. Then you just need to shoot a bullseye on it with some arrows. Done.

Second, we had to find Piglet mobs in the Nether and distract them with some gold. Mark had done this one yesterday, but it took me a while to recognize the Piglets. They look mostly like the Pigmen except they attack you on sight. They're like the Nether version of Illagers. You just have to drop a gold ingot at their feet and they'll stop to gaze at it. That's when you strike. Not too difficult.

Third, we had to create a set of armor out of a new matterial called something I forget right now. It's a super hard substance that is found in the same place as diamonds in the overworld, at 11 blocks above bedrock. You need a diamond pickaxe to mine it. We dug and dug and finally found enough to cook ingots from the raw matterial. Then, with a smithing table, we had to apply them to each piece of a set of diamond armor. So we had to find 24 diamonds to make the armor. Both tasks are time consuming because this new nether substance and diamonds are rare and come in veins of three of the nether substance and between 2 and 9 of diamonds. We got all this together finally, each of us donned the armor, and we both got the achievement. Phew, that was some work.

Lastly is one we haven't finished yet. It's for finding all 5 of the new Nether biomes. I've found three and Mark 4. Next time we'll get in there again and find the rest. It's just a matter of getting to the Nether and wandering around. One of the biomes has various mushroom-like growths and vines and another is full of lava and hoards of Magma monsters, which are firely slimes that break appart when attacked and swarm you with smaller versions of themtselves. There are also some weird bulbous-headed creatures in that biome that wade in the lava pools. I'm not sure what they do but they seem harmless.

It's a lot of fun getting back into Minecraft for a while. I'm also downloading the new Borderlands 3 DLC to do after this. I can't wait to see the new story matterial.

I just saw on FaceBook that someone made a replica of Space Battleship Yamato on Minecraft.  You might know that better as Star Blazers, an anime from the late 70's.  Reminds me of the time when my brother Jeff showed me a world someone made in Minecraft that was full of towns and references from Studio Ghibli movies!

Hey, did you ever try the Minecraft Pac-Man add-on yet?  If it's free, please try it and tell me about it.  But if it costs money, don't worry about it.

I loved that show when I was a kid!

I watched Starblazers religiously as a kid. One of my first anime shows. I would never want to build something like that in Minecraft though. Holy cow, that would take a long time.

I looked at the Pac-Man Minecraft DLC, and it seems neat, but it's $7 right now. It will likely go on sale sometime and I'll pick it up then.

Did you know they made a new Star Blazers remake in Japan a few years ago?  It's called Space Battleship Yamato 2199 and I watched it on one of those anime Netflix style things.  I think it was Crispy Roll or something like that.

I'd buy the Pac-Man Minecraft thing for 7 bucks, but then I'd have to buy Minecraft as well and I don't need another game to get addicted to!

Crunchy Roll, I believe. I'm really interested in rewatching the original sometime. I think the dvds were a bit expensive last time I looked though.

I bought a piece of DLC for Dead Rising 4 by accident recently, not realizing I'd need the full game to play it. I lucked out, though, because DR4 became part of Game Pass. Mark, however, got the same DLC and was mad he couldn't play it without buying the full game.

Yeah anime DVDs are usually pretty expensive.  I rewatched the original Star Blazers back when I first got Netflix.  This was back when I played a lot of 360 in its heyday.  I don't know if it's on there anymore, as that was a very long time ago.  Rewatching it again, I'd have to say that was a surprisingly dark cartoon to release in the US back in the late 70's!  But then, I only watched it as a little kid because it had spaceships in it.  Little Cary was pretty easily amused.  Heck, I watched The Dukes of Hazzard simply because it had cars jumping over ramps.

I only remember the build up to the final episodes that captured my attention so much. I think they had to defend Earth at the end? I just know it was exciting.

Minecraft is the gift that keeps on giving.

I'm always watching out for new updates so I can have a reason to play it more in survival mode. Creative mode isn't for me, which is strange, but I like to fight, I guess.
