What's a rpg/action platformer/brawler mashup where you also harvest resources like? It's just like Rogue Blob Heroes and its Gears Farm expansion. Thing is, I got annoyed that while I was away jumping and slashing my way to fame and fortune, my farm was getting raided by vacuum goblins sucking up all my juicy fruit. It drove me so nuts, I rage quit and played the following five games instead.
Heroes of Might & Magic: Quest for the Dragon Bone Staff
A 2001 PS2 game I have. It's a curious game. You appear riding a horse in the wilderness where you can run into random encounters. Once in battle, you have the troops you were given, mostly peasants at the start, and move around a grid in turn-based combat. The combat takes place automatically when you are in range at the end of a turn. I kept dying even on easy. I'm not sure how you gain more troops or win these battles of attrition. It seemed too much trouble to find out, so I stopped. Ah well, onto the next PS2 game in my collection tomorrow.
Streets of Rogue
Part two of my game session is always playing games that give me Game Pass rewards points. I only had to install and boot this game to get the points, but I played it for a while to see if I'd like it. It's prettty neat. It's a pixelated top-down view rogue-like. The tutorial showed me how to attack, hack computers and unlock doors. In the first level there are a lot of NPCs runnning about that don't confront you, but suddenly I was told to leave a room by a NPC, and when I didn't, I started getting attacked. I attacked back and soon a soldier showed up and shot me dead. I wasn't sure what was going on there. Well, whatever, it was interesting.
de Blob
I love the concept of this game. You are a blob that has to give color to the world ruled by colorless tyrants (can I do that in real life?). The issue was, though, that the controls drove me crazy. The blob sort of sticks to surfaces and won't unstick easily by jumping. It takes some getting use to, but I never got used to it. I only had to resuce 20 or so villagers for rewards points, so I stopped there.
Gears 5
I put in another couple hours into the campaign and managed a second achievement towards the rewards points goal of three. I was playing the desert area where you drive around with the skiff. I got the Jack robot ability to create a shield in front of your character. It's my new favorite tactic, and I used it as much as possible. I have until the 31st to get the third achievement.
Farm Together
I took my farm hands off harvesting crops and made them take care of the animals. Now I hardly do anything but monitor them. I'm like a middle manager now. I just show up to make sure the work is being done, then I watch the stats and wait for the quests to be completed. It's kind of hilarious in comparison with my friend Mark who uses no farm hands at all on his enormous farm. He prefers to do all the harvesting himself. I find that really tedious after a while. I spent one season just lying in bed watching the harvest numbers come in. I'm also planning my rail line for when I get the train station at farm level 60. My farm is at level 50.
