Klonoa High: Test Surge Farm

An anthropomorphic animal high school where young furries have to perform trials, not unlike those in Hunger Games, or face starvation. I found the story and relationships gripping, but the targeting controls were terrible. I had to play a pin-the-tail-on-the-furry minigame that was near impossible. That tail looked funny on a nose though. I went and played the following four games and watched a tv episode instead.

Retro
Klonoa 2

As platformers go, I like this one, but, as I am prone to impatience with such games, I only played an hour or so. A cutesy, big eared, furry has a ring wherein a priestess friend resides. You use the the ring to grab balloon-like creatures to enable high jumps, flying, or use as projectiles. It's a very charming game.

TV
High Score Episode 3

Lots of Richard Garriot in this one. Also a long segement about the game Gay Blade and the 80s establishment's cruelty towards the LGBT community in the midst of AIDS. I don't want to get politcal here, but it infuriated me.

Rewards Quests
Turing Test

This is a portal clone that I've played before. Last time I went really far in it but stopped. The puzzles got so darn complicated, I had to start looking up walkthroughs, and even then it was driving me crazy. This time I ripped through the first hour of puzzles faster than ever, surprising myself. Maybe I'm getting smarter? . . . Nah!

The Surge 2

Interesting game. You're on a post apocalyptic earth, stuck in a prison hospital ward and have to escape. It's a melee brawler for the most part that made me think of Dark Souls a little bit. You have to fight off inmates who are crazy desperate, punching your way around and looking for an exit. It's in 3rd person. I thought it was neat, but didn't realy need to play much more of it for the rewards points. If it had really excited me, I would've stayed with it despite rewards points. I'm not just mining those points, I'm trying to find new games I like.

Main Game
Farm Together

I've cultivated every square inch of my holdings. Now it's a matter of optimizing diamonds to buy more land. I also bought the warehouse which when leveled gives you more storage capacity. I'm starting to look at achievements and there is one for having 20K total storage. I also extended my railroad into town, and I watched Mark find a random friend on his farm that wouldn't leave him alone. They became friends in the end, but it was pretty silly seeing her chase him around the farm like that.

What did you play yesterday?

I don't consider disliking cruelty toward groups of people "political." That does sound infuriating.

I need to play a Klonoa game some day.

You're right about that.

I read an interesting novel last year about Chicago in the era of AIDS, called The Great Believers by Rebecca Makkai. Heartbreaking.

I've heard of the Surge... kind of a scifi Dark Souls.

That's funny about Mark's Farm Together squatter. You never know what a real human player will do.

It's getting weirder every day. Now they're playing other games too and he's, gasp, gonna get a headset so he can talk to her (if she's a she). They do everything together like newlyweds. Ha!

Klonoa 2 is a fantastic PS2 game, one of the best on the console.  It's not very hard either, so you should be able to beat it or at least get far.  I still like the original Klonoa on PSOne better, though.  I highly recommend you play that one if you can.  The original Klonoa game actually has one of the saddest endings in video games I've ever seen!

Aside from playing Animal Crossing and Paper Mario as usual, I'm working on reviewing Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time.

I think I still have the Klonoa game on GBA. I like them. Maybe I'll get them digitally, if available, sometime.
