I can't say anything interesting happened with me in 2011, just more blogs on 1UP.

TV: Wonders of the Universe

I can't get enough of natural science, especially astronomy. I continued watching this series hosted by Brian Cox.

Film: Your Highness

I righteously love this film. It's very silly, takes place in a medieval world of mythological beasts and magic users, and is very silly. Did I say that already?. It's. . . Danny McBride, James Franco and Natalie Portman, Zoey Deschannel and Justin Theroux, all great. But mainly, I became a huge fan of Danny McBride from this picture. I also hate, "triangle face". It scares me. .

Game: Gears of War 3

Remember when remixing an old song and dubbing it over the gameplay of a game was new and cool? I think this was when developers started using it for themselves. This was also the year my friend and I got into the Gears series. I think, during the hype before the release of Gears 3 that year, I went and bought Gears 1 on the cheap to see what it was. I got hooked right away and, since it had co-op, got my friend to play it too. We ripped through Gears 1 and Gears 2 and were ready day-one when Gears 3 hit. Boy did we play that a lot too. We spend a long time unlocking items, weapons and upgrades in Hoard mode. This was the most fun we had had in a Gears game.

Music: Portal 2: Music to Test By soundtrack

I like this soundtrack. It's like a good electronic music album. I've listened to a few over the years from Wendy Carlos to Kraftwerk to Brian Eno to Synergy to Junkie XL and Skrillex. I've never finished the game though. I should do that. This soundtrack is free too. It's on an offical website listed at the bottom of the wiki page concerning the album. It's three albums worth of various electronic beats and ambiance and Jonathan Coulton's end credit song, "Want You Gone". It's not quite as great as "Still Alive" from the first Portal, but it's good.

Book: Greg Bear "Halo Cryptum"

This was the first book in a trilogy of Halo books by Greg Bear describing what went on long before the UNSC and the Covenant war. This is all about the Forerunners and the orgins of the Halo rings. It's a great, very detailed, and complex story, which is just up my alley. I really apprieciate a good science fiction story, and this is one. It made me a fan of Greg Bear.

What did you like in 2011?

Dragon Quest VI, which was the last mainline DQ to be unreleased in the US at the time it came out. Catherine. Yakuza 4. My wife and I took the kids to see Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Was mostly gnashing my teeth at Reggie Fils-Aime and his stubborness about not releasing Xenoblade Chronicles in the US.

I was wondering about Dragon Quest VI when it came up on the 2011 wiki list. I didn't put it on my list because I figured it was already out in the US earlier. Now I know it was the first time in the US, it goes on my list for sure.

2011 had a lot of great games, looking back on my GOTY list that year.  I loved Portal 2, and Okamiden was my GOTY.  Here's my article from that year:

I got Okamiden day-one that year. I still have it too. I, um, haven't finished it though. Frown

I think what game I remember most about 2011 is The Old Republic, the Star Wars MMO. I bought a new laptop just to play it, and I played it a lot, even though it wasn't that great. It had its high points though, and I enjoyed the time I had with it. Eventually I got tired of it though. At the end of 2011 / beginning of 2012, we bought this house in Phoenix and in January we headed across the country to live here.

I remember turning my nose up at MMOs when Warcraft went MMO. I kind of want to find one I like now. I've tried a few but none have stuck.

I think around 2011 I was doing my morning walks from my house, to the back of Target (1 1/2 miles away), to the little grocery store across the street and back to my house as my morning exercise/audiobook time. This was also my excuse to check out the clearance section at Target to find those $7.98 PS3 games.

I also think I was into the PSP or right around the time after I upgraded to a 3rd gen version.

I used to hit bargain bins all the time. Haven't even seen one in a good while now. I only do the Goodwill hunting every so often, sometimes Gamestop.
