What I Played Last Weekend

Weird that I even have a weekend. I think I live in a strange alternate reality. I don't think it's real. . . yet.

Grim Fandango: Another attempt of mine to finish one of these impenetrable point-and-click adventures by Tim Shaffer and Co. on Game Pass . I think I did some new things and got a little farther than last time, but I still got stuck on creating a bridge over the broken segment of the skyscraper ledge. I tried everything I could think of even filling an empty balloon with a packing solution. I refuse to look at a walkthrough, so I quit.

Aragami: Got this from Games with Gold. It's a stealth game and a pretty good one. One problem, I dislike stealth games. Or rather, I like them until I have to repeat an area over and over to get it right. I have no patience for repetitive gameplay. But, I got fairly far into it before putting it down.

Full Spectrum Warrior: Also from Games with Gold. It's an old OG Xbox game. It's pretty good too. I spent a good long time with it learning some real tactics used by soldiers in urban environments. You control multiple squads and move each of them around as a group. You have to be pretty careful though and use cover and provide cover fire and watch your six. It's very well done but I got a little impatient and got reckless. The game doesn't like reckless and makes you pay for it.  So, I'd had enough of that tactical nonsense after a while.

Assault on Metaltron: I got this game new with my MS Rewards points. It's a tower defense that plays exactly like Pixeljunk Monsters complete with dancing at towers to make them grow. . .I mean upgrade. I need a good tower defense game on my hard drive when I feel stressed out. It's simple fun and I don't mind replaying levels for the best score. Funny, how I'm okay with repetition in that context.

Farm Together: I finally filled up my first plot and opened a second one. I'm expanding very slowly, filling up every part of a plot before expanding. I hope to eventually get where my buddy is at where he's got so much money he never runs out no matter what he plants. The ultimate goal, and my last achievement, is to open all the plots. There are a lot of them and it will take a good long time. Luckily, this game is fun for short bursts between other things.

That's a weekend. I believe Gears Tactics comes out this weekend and I have a whole new set of Game Pass Rewards Quests to tackle. It's gonna be fun.

I don't have any qualms with looking up guides.  If it helps me enjoy a game, then I say it's OK.

I go through phases. I was doing a lot of lookups earlier this year. Depends on the game too.

yeah, point and click adventure games can be pretty tough. I've never been very good at them, but I do like them.

I love them, just why, oh why do they have to have such obscure solutions. I get it, they're padding the game to take longer, but damn that frustrates me. To look up a guide makes me feel like a failure. I'm not going to do it. Maybe. . .

I could never get into Grim Fandango. People dig it but it just didn't click for me.

Full Spectrum Warrior is a game I haven't heard about in a long while. I played that and the Star Wars version...I went through a phase with the XBox.

I liked Full Throttle better, I think. I'm going to play Day of the Tentacle soon too.

I remember a lot of talk of how Full Spectrum Warrior used real military consultants to get the squad tactics as realistic as possible. It's by Pandemic too, which is cool because they did the Destroy All Humans series I like a lot. Also did the first Star Wars Battlefronts, if I remember rightly.
