I think these games came at a time when zombies were ubiquitous and I just could not bring myself to care about them.
The games do sound good though.

This game has come up on Game Pass quests at least three times since I started Game Pass about a year ago. I've played it all three times. It's really grown on me. I've gotten a little farther each time. One of these days I'm going to take a stab at finishing it.
This is a third-person action survival game with base building and crafting. You begin as a two-player team (one run by AI but you can play co-op with a real player) and make your way to a safe house operated by a few others. I think you begin your first base with about six players total. From there you are given missions to search the surrounding area for supplies, secure local buildings from zombies, and locate other survivors whom you can then add to your settlement. You can build up your settlement, add facilities and enhance the ones you have. There's a lot you can do aside from just hunting zombies.
Today I did the usual thing in the first few hours of the game: drive out with my vehicle and find supplies, fight off zombies, destroy hives of zombies, heal my people of the zombie plague, and rescue other survivors and add them to my team. I went a little farther this time though and became a leader of my settlement which opened up new missions only my character can complete. You can switch to any character in the settlement at any time and even ask one to help you out as you head out on a mission. I also traveled much farther in the open world and found a wealth of buildings to secure, vehicles to drive, and new characters to meet. I'm dying to play this co-op with someone, so I tried to get my gaming friend in on it but without luck, yet.
Fighting in this game works really well. You can melee attack with various weapons you can find and make. You can also shoot guns when you have enough ammo. You can also make thrown explosives like fire and pipe bombs. And, of course, you can just run zombies over with your car.
One thing I noticed though. I played on easy today in order to get the rewards quest done quickly but it's a little bit too easy on that difficulty. Next time I'm on the default difficulty for sure to get that real sense of desperation.
I'm really enjoying it and will keep it installed for later play, hopefully for later co-op.
