9 Games, None to Rule Them

The first four were the casual games I'm working on, then the new Game Pass quest games as they downloaded, and finally some games new to Game Pass I wanted to try.

Farm Together: 12 lands left to get the final achievement.

Gnomes Garden: A New Home: I used the upgrade-buildings-right-away technique on several early levels I needed more stars on. I got to two stars on them but 3 eludes me still.

Pinball FX3: I played the Theater of Magic table. I'm not hugely thrilled with this one but I stuck with it through several tournaments and unlocked a lot of upgrades in solo challenge play. It's a simulation of a real pinball table from the late 90s.

Lego Batman: I knocked off some achievements and finished the first episode on free play. I am still missing a few minikits. I can't imagine where they could be so if I want them I'll have to look up a walkthrough which I won't do until I've run through the whole game on free play. I may or may not take the trouble to look them up.

Dungeon of the Endless: Played for a Game Pass quest I've played before. It's a neat top-down view 8-bit style rogue-like. It's pretty cool but the waves of enemies eventually get me. I only had to unlock 7 doors to new rooms but I kept playing until my team died.

Destroy All Humans Remaster: This is on Game Pass now, so I downloaded it for sure. I'd played the original on OG Xbox back in '05 or so and loved it. They have really overhauled the graphics and animations for this version. They may have even added dialog, I'm not sure but some of it feels new. You can explore the levels now freely and take on challenge missions that are certainly new. I would have ended with this game today but I got stuck on a mission I couldn't complete because a scientist I had to kill would always hide so well I couldn't find him at the end of the mission. Darn, this game is fun for its mayhem and even its stealth. I never thought I'd like stealth in a game but here you can take the form of any human and go unnoticed while you read minds and manipulate human society. The dialog is pretty funny too, making fun of 50s American culture.

Minecraft: Game Pass quest. Boy, it's been a while and, as always, I'm shocked at the rudimentary graphics. I swear it didn't even look as good as what Mark was playing, the original Destroy All Humans from '05. But, it's all about the gameplay and I had a lot of fun killing 20 zombies for a Game Pass "achievement".

State of Decay: I have been really liking this game's sequel and so was thrilled to try the original for a Game Pass quest. It's very similar to SoD2 only with lower graphical fidelity. I played well beyond the 11 zombie kills I needed. I stopped when I got to the second base after a long road trip marked by lots of zombie roadkill and vehicle changes. I even survived a car crash over a broken bridge to later be riding a sweet pickup with my friends in the back. I love this series.

Dragon Quest Builders 2: This just appeared on Game Pass and I had to download it. I had played the demo a while back on PS4. I got as far today as the demo where you get a boat to visit other islands before I had to stop for the day. I'm looking forward to seeing these other islands and gather helpers to rebuild the temple of my home island. I just hope I don't run into some of the problems I had with the first game and have to struggle to get the game to recognize buildings built from blueprints. So far so good though.

Oh, that's a day.

I never got Dragon Quest Builders 2.  The first one was fun, but after I got past the first area, the second was just more of the same, just harder, and I felt like I had done it all before so I just stopped playing.  Still not a bad game, I just had other things to play.

I like that other characters will build for you. I just set up a scarecrow and watched a character prepare the land for me. I don't remember that being in the first game, but maybe.

No I don't think others could build for you in the first game.

I love the idea of having characters build for you while you direct. I do that in Farm Together with the farmhands.
