Last Weekend

Games for sure but I also participated in Record Store Day and went to a PA Dutch Smorgasborg. There was a harvest of peas too and texting with a friend I haven't seen for a few years. What else? Think that's it. Here are details on gaming.

FIFA 21 (EA) - Was playing this for a Game Pass Quest. I downloaded this, a MLB game and a NBA game for other quests but I blew a gasket struggling to score six goals and decided to never again play anything I don't want to for a Game Pass quest. Game Pass has me download these massive file-size sports titles every few weeks and it's annoying, and I don't like them much. I like the more cartoony-style versions of these games like Super Mega Baseball and NBA Jam, and I wish I could play Inazuma for a chibi soccer fix too. Same goes with the racing games.

Minecraft (Microsoft Studios) - New achievements had my friend and I playing co-op trying to get them. There's a kind of sea monster (small one) in the game. It attacks everything except you. If you help it defeat a drowned (underwater zombie) there's an achievement. I got that one. Another one has you attempt to wax a new element, copper. The achievement text is very vague but I gathered from a youtube video that you have to create every type of thing with copper blocks and then watch them corrode, then wax them with beeswax. My friend and I tried map after map to find bee hives. We found them but then had trouble getting the copper to corrode. We managed to clean up a few of them but apparently you have to do four different ones. After a while it got too frustrating and we stopped. The last one is to lead a new animal, a goat, into a boat. I think it's not too hard unless you can't find goats, which I had some trouble doing. They randomly spawn on mountains but sometimes not. Very annoying these random spawns. Procedural generation is a two-edged sword.

Borderlands 3 (Gearbox) - My friend and I have been playing a lot of this. There are new daily and weekly challenges and we go after them everytime we are together. What finally broke me on this and led me to delete the game from my drive was that these challenges only give you cosmetic item rewards and keys for a random chance at new weapons and I found myself and my friend losing over and over in Arms Race. I have no idea what is going on in that mode except that it seems to be a lot harder than it was a few weeks ago. I am playing as a new character, Zane, too. He has a drone and a shoulder cannon. I like him a lot, almost more than my goto, level-maxed, Beastmaster. But, there's precious little left to do that's worth anything in the game. No more achievements or story content, just replay with a new character. Maybe I'll reinstall it sometime. I probably will.

Pac-Man 256 (Bandai Namco) - I played this a bunch until I realized that I'm not a big maze game fan. I like this better than most other Pac-Man games though. You just keep running from the level 256 glitch until you make a mistake and get nabbed by a ghost. It almost feels like an endless runner game except that the end will always come sooner or later.

Mahjong Adventure (Fantastico Studio) - I wanted a Mahjong game with some kind of progression mechanic in it. What I don't like are the time limits on each level. How fast can your eyes find all the matching pieces without getting stuck? I loath time limits in games. Doing it fast is a fun challenge but not all the time. Still, I like this enough for now. I'm just unlocking new boards until I can't stand it any more.

Path of Sin: Greed (Artifex Mundi) - So, at the last minute on Sunday I realized I needed one more achievement to keep my 7 week streek going on MS weekly rewards. I quickly looked for a game on my drives that I hadn't played and that would probably give me a quick achievement. I chose this but had to play a while until I got one mostly by accident. It's a hidden object style game with a story and a mystery to solve. Artifex Mundi makes lots of these things and, for what they are, are pretty well made. Well, I got my achievement, dropped the controller, and ended my weekend. Phew.

Oh yeah! I watched the Xbox/Bethesda presentation. Forza 5! Diablo II remake! Some new ones that look interesting.

Also, a new Borderlands game coming next year staring Tiny Tina done by 2K. I'm all over that one.

Pac-Man 256 was a fun little mobile game.  Made by the same folks who did Crossy Road, so that's where the endless runner connection comes in.  Well I'm off to write my E3 article.  Hope to post it in a couple of hours.

Great, because all I saw of it was the Xbox/Bethesda presentation.

Well it's up now so go read it or I'll send Chun-Li over to your house and she'll roll you up like a basketball and dribble you around the house!
