If you remember from my second podcast, the Xbox 360 is one of my top five favorite game consoles of all time. I really liked the wide variety of games on it, no gimmicky Wii crap, and it was the first console I owned that did online right. I haven't gotten an Xbox One or X/S yet. I don't have anything against them, it's just there aren't enough games on those consoles for me to warrant a purchase.
Plugged in the Xbox 360...

...after a very long time. I mainly did it to play Pinball Hall of Fame: Williams Collection but I also pulled out a few others from my collection too. Luckily the Xbox app on my phone records what you played on Xbox Series X, Xbox One and Xbox 360 so I can remember what I played last weekend. I expected sign-in problems on 360 but, other than updating my network data, it was no problem.
Pinball Hall of Fame: Williams Collection: I wish they had put out PHF: Gottlieb Collection as well on Xbox 360 but they didn't. I have it on Wii. It was also on PS2 and OG Xbox. If I remember rightly, they had some really old tables in that collection. The Williams collection has exactly two 70s games: Gorgar ('79) and Jive Time ('70). I played those and then played the tournament and challenge modes which use all the tables in the game. I swear these tables look even better on this collection than on the more recent Pinball Arcade (formerly) and Pinball FX3. I'm probably dreaming though.
Xbox Game Room: I started going through my virtual game list. I can't believe this "app" still works after a decade or so. It still crashes whenever I exit though, and the servers have been turned off so no multiplayer or even leaderboards anymore. In any case, I had two 1970s games in my digital collection, Atari 2600 Bowling and arcade Lunar Lander. I somehow managed a 5x landing in Lunar Lander. Don't think I've done that before. I've long since gotten all the gold stars you can get from both games. Seems all my weird virtual arcade room decorations are still floating around though.
Panzer General: This was a live arcade title. It's like a simplification of the board game of the same name. You play on a Stratego-type square grid and move your forces forward like chess pieces. Each piece is shown with a real photo in the menus. It was really fun and I had to rip myself away from it after a few rounds or so.
Plants vs. Zombies: I couldn't resist playing a few rounds of this. I'm still pinning for PvZ 2 that was never released for consoles, only phones.
Culdcept Saga: Back to physical games I still have. Turn-based games were acceptable on my 70s game play list because of strategy games I played back in the 70s like Squad Leader. I love Culdcept and wish they would make another one for consoles but the AI in this, the second game in the series, is atrocious. It is the cheatingest AI I've ever seen. How I used to get past even the first level in campaign mode amazes me. My friend and I usually played head-to-head and would have now but he didn't have his 360 hooked up.
Operation Darkness: So since Valkyria Chronicles is like video game Squad Leader for me, Operation Darkness is a-ok. It is very much like VC except that the camera is a little confusing and hard to manage. I got whooped on the first mission and so stopped, but I could get into this sometime when I have more patience. At one time this was the only similar game to VC on Xbox. Now I got VC on Xbox all over the place.
X-Com Enemy Within: I so love every aspect of this game: story, presentation, gameplay, but the difficulty kills me, literately. It always makes me rage quit when I get a really great character with genetic upgrades from the facility I've painstakingly constructed, with new gear I've researched and built, and killer stats from awarded medals and leveling totally cheap killed by Thin Men dropping in from the sky. Seriously! I know it's like... realism, anyone can die in a war even by stupid chance, even if they're a hero, but it sucks, and I don't want to play that. I'm keeping my copy of the game in a velvet case though.
Minecraft: I was finally done with 360 for the day and returned to Xbox One and played some of this with my friend. I have a new procedure I've made up. I made a list of all the professions you can do in the game and rolled randomly (used the random.org app on my phone) before I start to play. This time I rolled the Trader and so went about trying to trade with all the villagers. My goal was to trade with every villager until each of them attained Master level. I didn't have much time left in the day though, and after all the preparation I had to do, I managed only one trade with a weapon's smith, coal for emerald. Well, next time I'll be something else and go on a different quest.
That is all.
