So... Gaming

While I was trying to stick to my retro game playing, my friend was still deep into Dishonored 2. As an assassin, he had lots of bodies to hide and it was funny to watch him fill up bathtubs and decorative ponds with them. Kind of gruesome but the physics of throwing a whole body around in this game is pretty funny.

While I was waiting for the Silent Hill HD Collection to install, I installed this much smaller file size game and got really hooked on it long past the time when Silent Hill was ready.

This is a 2D, pixel-art RPG with some platforming. It's similar to Pokemon, I think. You fight monsters, gain their eggs, and hatch them for yourself and add them to your party. You can then equip and level them. Battles are three on three in a turn-based style. It's sort of my favorite type of game. It has exploration, turn-based battles, and stat management.

I developed a strategy with my three monsters. You can keep many more, and if one gets knocked out, your reserves will appear. I eventually kept six and gave the rest back to the stronghold where they add to an army there.

I was cruising pretty well through the game when enemies started keying in on my best monster. This really annoyed me and I stopped to play Silent Hill 2. Awesome game, though.

Oh the mist. I struggled with the tank-like movement controls, very dark environments, lack of prompts to tell you what is interactive, and, of course, the mist. I very much love the atmosphere in these Silent Hill games, though, so I kept at it. I eventually got to the town of Silent Hill, discovered some clues and entered an apartment building. There I got stuck in a very dark room with nothing but a shopping cart. Nothing was interactive and all the doors locked after I entered. I was at a loss. One day, I'll look up a walkthrough and see what I missed.

While waiting for KOTOR to install, I played this. There is a new hoard mode I wanted to play but the game suggested I finish the campaign first, so I went at it again. However, I got to those platforming moments and just couldn't take it. Why am I swinging from poles and bursting through the air in a FPS game, Doom no less? I expect continual action but I have to stop and repeat a jump five times before I get it. No thanks. It was fun for a while though. Boy, this game is gorific.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic:

I played from the beginning again and got to the part where you have to don sith guard armor and find some papers to allow you to enter the lower levels of the city. I had to stop before finding the documents you need. I forget just how I got them last time. I hope I can figure it out next time. I would like to finish it this time.

The map in that monster game makes it look kind of Metroid-ish, too.

I'm playing a scary game right now, too!  Well, it's not THAT scary, but it's about ghosts and I like ghosts.  I'm working on reviewing Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water!

You can even use your monsters to help you navigate the dungeons. Some break walls and others help you levitate so you can get higher in a jump or go farther. You can jump over encounters too so you're not stuck with endless random battles.

I always wanted to try the Fatal Frame games. I always missed out on them and then they immediately got expensive used.

I've played a few of the Fatal Frame games.  The first couple on the PS2 are a bit slow and clunky.  I liked the 3DS one.  Nintendo published it and gave it a different name (Spirit Camera), but it's a Fatal Frame game.  It's also more or less a 3DS tech demo, but I still liked it anyway.  The new game, Maiden of Black Water (actually it's not that new since it first came out on the Wii U), is fine, but the levels are a bit too long and the game uses all the buttons so I forget the controls sometimes and it's a bit repetitive.  But otherwise not too bad.
