BaD: Shortest Games #4

I'm glad for Game Pass on Xbox because there is a wide range of games to choose from. Whenever I think about playing something easy, I can find it. In this case it was Paw Patrol: MIghty Pups Save Adventure Bay.

This game presents you with a variety of challenges. Each mission gives you two pups with their unique abilities and sets them in an environment where they have to solve various problems. I guess there's some environmental cleanup story going on, only, I didn't pay much attention to it. I was mainly interested in the gameplay and progressing through each level.

Each level has a trail of collectible dog treats to pick up. These unlock mini-game levels and snapshots of the pups, environments and antogonists. If you miss some of the collectibles, no problem, the game remembers what you picked up the first time and only shows the ones you missed; you don't have to get them all in one go. Other games could learn from this idea.

The mini-games involve flying, swimming and vehicles. You have to pick up all the dog treats in a level and sometimes other items too. Some of the mini-games have multiple levels to complete.

I did every darn thing in this game because it was pretty fun. It's not particularly difficult but not boring either. There's a boss fight at the end that uses more than two pup's abilities to win.

I enjoyed it and got my 1000 achievements in largely one sitting. Howlongtobeat.com says 5 hours for the main story. Maybe I played a bit longer to beat all the mini-games and get every dog treat in every campaign level.

The game was developed by Torus Games, an Australian dev that works mostly on tv/movie licensed properties. They did Beast Quest (a game I've often considered in the Xbox store), Hotel Transylvania 3: Monsters Overboard (a game that uses Overloard/Pikmin mechanics that I played but got stuck in), the 2017 Ben 10 game (I'm going to have to check that one out), and How to Train Your Dragon 2 on Xbox 360 among many others across all systems.

My kids played that Ben 10 game. It was a basic but competent brawler. It's weird how it seems, well, weird to have licensed games on consoles these days. Seems like they're all on phones now and that's not a bad thing lol. But it's nice there are some good ones still.

I was reading a quote from one of the developers on this game. He was saying how being a game maker of licensed kids games is a pretty good niche to be in. Something about reliable financial rewards. Also about how the older kids would hand down their old consoles to their siblings who want to play games of the tv shows they watch.

I reviewed one of the Paw Patrol games.  Not this one, but the one before it I think.  The game was all right for little kids.  I think the show is cute.  I like the pup who drives a garbage truck.

I saw some Paw Patrol action figures the other day. I almost got them. If they had one in their vehicle, I might not be able to resist that.

There's this one toy with the Paw Patrol Garbage Truck Dog, and the garbage truck has all sorts of tools in it that kids can play with.  Little Cary would've totally wanted that!

I got into Skylanders mostly because of Superchargers and those vehicles. I could easily get hooked on Paw Patrol vehicle toys.

They do make lots of Paw Patrol toys!
