Zoo Tycoon was released in 2013 for Xbox 360 and Xbox One. An upgraded edition was released in 2017 called Zoo Tycoon: Ultimate Animal Collection for Xbox One and S|X and added to Game Pass. I played the 2013 edition a lot and when the UAC version came up in a Game Pass quest recently, I played it again and realized that this version gives me a totally fresh set of achievements and new animals. I'm excited to play the whole game over again.

According to Howlongtobeat.com the main story takes 14 hours. Not super short, but I liked it so much I finished in probably less time. Of course you can keep going, play online, and just mess around for many more hours. Also there is now two versions out there each with a full set of achievements, so play it twice, I say!

It was developed by Frontier Developments based in England. Among other games, they did Thrillville: Off the Rails for Xbox 360 that used Xbox avatars in the game. It was pretty cool. They also did Disneyland Adventures, originally a Kinect game but now with a controller, and also on Game Pass. This game models exactly the Disneyland park in California. I played a lot of that one. I've tried their Screamride rollercoaster game but didn't get into it much. Planet Coaster came out in 2016 and I was super excited for it and played it day-one on Game Pass but it was a little bit difficult to play and I didn't finish it. They also did the Elite Dangerous series of space flight sims out on Xbox One and PS4. I have yet to try that.

So I really like what this company has done and am always interested in their next release. As long as they keep the winning formula of: sim game but with console friendly controls and difficulty, I'll keep playing their games.

When we had Game Pass my boys really got into this game for a week or two. Seems pretty neat.

The problem with a lot of sim games on console is that they are clearly developed for PC and the control scheme is usually too complex and confusing. The UI is also usually too busy. This game hits just the right level of simplicity and yet deep customization with easy-to-understand and navigate menu screens. And, you can drive around in a buggy and pick up the poo. Yep, gotta keep those animal environments clean. haha
